Despite being heralded by Gary Barlow as having the performance of the series last week, Marcus Collins is the least listened to contestant according to listener figures calculated by Last.fm. With the contestants’ tracks available to download after each show, the music website can track which of the final six are being listened to the most, not just on their website but across a number of sites which allow scrobbling.

According to data collected over recent weeks, Janet Devlin is more than 10 times as popular as bottom of the charts Marcus, based on listener figures. The Risk were a shock exit last week, could Marcus be next?

Matt Sheret, Data Griot for Last.fm comments, ‘X-Factor has been shock after shock this year. If excellent contestants like Marcus aren’t popular with viewers it’s hard to predict what they are really looking for in a winner. No one is safe!’

Not at all. The YouTube views are different again and none of this converts to votes. In the same way that, in the end, votes don’t convert to record sales. There are lies, damn lies and statistics – as the old adage goes.

If you check out various polls Janet has come top nearly every week, marcus is just another Leon Jackson plain an simple

It’s because of her singing style and before anyone says it she’s nothing like Diana vickers, the problem with the boys will either Craig or Marcus have lasting careers?none of the boys really have except joe who’s doing well with classical music,Janet would make a more than deserving winner

absolutely agree w Guy. Marcus just got lucky last week w a catchy easy to sing number which exactly suited his style. janet was the most outside her comfort zone last week and still managed an ok performance. her song choices could be a lot better but she so deserves to win.

  3. Cathair says:

Haha. Any wonder. Collectively she has over 1k listens on my iTunes.

    She needs to win.

He’s the best. Don’t belive the numbers. Marcus will win TXF.

  5. Seymour says:

Marcus is very good. But there’s sth missing on him. I like to watch him performing every week, but I will not buy his album if he’s releasing one.

  6. Eugene says:

agreed with seymour.i will not buy his album too.but janet will be real class recording artist.

I’d say the view count indicates what interests people. Janet’s always been ahead on that. Probably this won’t directly reflect in the voting based on primetime ITV but whatever the result, hopefully Janet and the best of the rest get the exposure they need for their careers.

But these statistics don’t take into account the type of song. Obviously Janet has incredibly unique vocals, so people will want to listen to her.

Marcus has been given songs arn’t exactly the most appealing songs to go out of your way to just listen to. Reet Petite… Are you gonna go my way… Not exactly playlist fillers.

However if you look at Youtube views/likes (which take into account the performance not just the song) Marcus has a huge amount of likes compared to most of the others.

Guess so. Janet’s got more individual material on UTube and is the most distinctive and intriguing singer IMO. Marcus is a good singer, and at the moment, with Misha, the best performer. Depends on what you are looking for. I hope they both get to the final. Can’t see Amelia’s return being fair to the remaining 6 (although her early exit was crueller than the other 3 acts chopped before public voting).
