“You Go Joe your (sic) the real talent”

ROFL. Once this current mannequin is dispensed with, the cynical pap machine behind the X-Factor/Britain’s Got Talent (PMSL)/Pop Idol will replace him with another talent-free void of an act.
If this is the beginning of the end of wretched programmes like X-Factor, to join other ordure like Big Brother in the forgotten pile, then so much the better.

Hello! Wakey-wakey! If not getting a third-rate cover of a third-rate song by a third-rate offspring of Billy Ray Cyrus to number one causes you so much anger, perhaps it’s time to get a life instead of wasting yours glued to this joke of a programme each winter. Try thinking for yourself instead of displaying a herd-like mentality for lapping up whatever dross is served up each year by this show.

I think the rage are a lot of talentless wonders, they know how to shout but can’t sing, I have never heard of them, thank god, and bollocks to paul mccartney, John Lennon was the star of the beatles, mccartney is jealous, he couldn’t even sing on X Factor.
You Go Joe your the real talent, you will be there, when these old sods are all forgotten. Love you Joe

    HAHAHAHAHAHA suck it

  4. Catherine says:

Load Of old Blokes trying to take away, the glory of a young talented man, how bloody sad, and that includes McCartney.

  5. Doozer says:

Seems like a nice guy and he accepted second place gracefully. I wish him well and suspect he may top the charts next week, though I am glad RATM won this week.

  6. Trudy says:

Now that RATM have got there and for some reason people seemed to think they have proved a point lets hope that RATM disappear again, they cannot sing are foul mouthed not a group I could respect. If the FB protesters had picked a decent song by someone who could sing perhaps then it might have made a valid point but this was just people following a protest group thinking they were getting at Simon Cowell/X-Factor when in fact they were lining the pockets of a group that most people had not heard of before. Also the so called charity part RATM went on about seems to have gone from giving all the money to charity to some of the money I think RATM are just as bad as the X-Factor team.
I agree that it shouldn’t be a right for X-Factor winner to get to number one but it’s the public that put them there, if a decent record came out then it maybe different, you cannot count this year as people were buying the record because others were and trying to protest not because they liked it. Hopefully next year there will be decent singles released and the christmas no 1 is decided by merit, not protesters or because it is a so called right of the X-Factor winner but because thats the song the public prefer.

  7. Hannah says:

Joe deserved to be number 1 a lot more that RATM. hes a nice lad and all these ratm fans r just bullyin joe its pathetic to be honest. Atleast Joe has maintained his dignity by congratulating them Joe’s the talented one here all ratm do is shout!!He’ll have a fab future anyway x x

  8. Doozer says:

Tom Morello and Zack de la Rocha have always been clear that part of the proceeds would go to charity. I believe in the final few days of media reporting it was misreported. Nevertheless, the parallel fundraising campaign has so far raised over £74,000 and that money is separate and ring fenced. Well done.

  10. Kathy says:

Fearne Cotton Is a pig ..Yes they do hate joe its obvious why did they choose the xfactors most deserveing winner to come and ruin his hopes of a christmas number 1

  11. ash says:

joe didn’t deserve it because he hasn’t done enough to deserve it it’s all Cowell and you know it, if he had a record label without the x factor he wouldn’t be in the top 20 nevermind the top 2 and you all know it

    congrats RATM
    unlucky Simon

Ohhh and don’t feel sorry for him he still gets a LOAD of money i’m sure just little Simon gets more

  12. Raven says:

Congratulations to Joe for being a good sport, and he is RIGHT! It was never against him personally, it is against the clearly commercially designed and manufactured, financially gain-motivated, bland music that is being produced by Simon Cowell and this show and its impoverishing, negative and destructive impact on the culture of the musical landscape.

It’s true that most music has some financial gain as part of its goal, but true artistry, true creativity and original music is usually the main motivators behind a lot of true music out there. And in the case of Rage Against The Machine, there is the added social awareness which is a major part of their music, just like songs by great artists like Bob Marley and many others, whose music go beyond merely being good.

Joe has yet to prove himself, to himself and others, but maybe he will. Maybe he will become one of the few who goes from winning a tv entertainment and karaoke talent show, where the contestants are pretty much used for the financial gain of someone else in exchange for a bit of fame and a few minutes in the limelight…maybe he will be able to take himself beyond that and actually become a true artist who creates his own true music instead of becoming a glorified karaoke singer…

True music needs true creative endeavours, talent and the creation of original content…that hopefully comes from the heart of a person and not from the pen of others who write with commercial interest in sight alone…in the case of X-factor, they do not even necessarily write anything original, but just rehash creations of others…and thus not adding anything new to the landscape and culture of music. Those that follow these kinds of talent shows and support them to this extent, are contributing to this impoverishing of musical culture.

True, there may be space for talent shows of this kind as well, but their impact, supported by financial interests at the expense of true original creative efforts, is overwhelming and has an extremely negative effect. For instance, the deliberate decision to place it next to Christmas with a strong marketing effort to take the number one spot, with the help of timed overexposure and other manipulative actions, has robbed people of a real choice at Christmas. One party using its strong financial power to overwhelm the charts in such a deliberate manner is of course shrewd in a business sense but not quite the decent thing to do…especially not during Christmas, a time of good will to all. It’s ironic that Simon Cowell referred to this online campaign as cynical and bitter when it is he who has affected the musical landscape with cynicism and a Scrooge like effect.

THIS IS ALSO ABOUT DIVERSITY. Which is especially important when it comes to music. When one man or one entertainment machine, takes over to such a degree as X-factor and Simon Cowell have done, it makes music suffer and thus all true music lovers suffer as well. This whole campaign is a strong statement saying that WE WANT DIVERSITY and not just one choice, the predictable hijacking of the number one during Christmas by one entertaiment machine. What better way to make a statement against this but through a band named Rage Against The MACHINE!

This was never against Joe, irregardless of what a lot of embittered Joe and X-factor supporters are saying, it makes them feel better about it if they can justify their dislike by accusing the opposition of negative things, none of which is true. It would have been the same no matter who won the X-factor. As for bullying and such…well Simon Cowell has built a career on bullying, not just one person, but a multitude of them. I think it’s important not to lose sight of the truth, irregardless of whom you support, RATM or Joe.

Anyhow…I loved RATM when they first came out and their album, especially the one which ‘Killing in the name’ is from, is a classic! 15 years later and I’m still listening to it and it’s just as good as it was the first time around…along with other newer music that I’m listening to as well (Foo Fighters, Muse, Mumford and Sons etc). RATM are not dated by any means, the individual members have been part of many musical projects, all original stuff. For instance, some of the band members had another project called ‘Audioslave’ which created some great rock tunes with one of the strongest male singers on lead vocal (Chris Cornell). As a matter of fact, Tom Morello has just come out with another musical project this year called ‘Street Sweeper Social Club’. These guys are active musicians and artists who have created some very strong material in their time and continue to do so.

I genuinely hope that Joe can have even half of their collective success. If he does, he will be extremely fortunate to say the least. This isn’t about being against Joe, despite the fact that some anti-factor and RATM supporters have been venting their frustrations against Joe and Simon Cowell. This is all about not wanting shrewd and financially motivated interests to hijack the musical landscape even more, making it difficult for true aspiring artists and those already established, to be heard over this short term money making machine that is x-factor.

  13. ZKCyber says:

The sound of the girls whining about this outcome is like music to my ears – face it luvvies, you don’t really care that his music is meaningless, his actions are controlled by a PR team and his legacy will last about a year tops, you just wanted to see a little “fit” boy make your christmas wet dream. Well I and a LOT of people are glad it didn’t happen. RATM are a group who are well known, incredibly popular, and for a good reason – their music has a point! They’ve started from the bottom and worked up to the top – REAL work, not being flown to a holiday camp for a few months and back again – besides, it’s not like any of you are smart enough to notice Tom Morello’s outstanding guitar playing… no really, he’s great, try listening to some other tracks if you ears don’t fall off first

  14. Raven says:

Many great and established guitar players stated that Tom Morello was one of the most genuinely innovative new guitar players when he entered the scene with RATM. He is indeed one of the most original guitarists of our time and as such an invaluable addition to the culture and landscape of music, as are indeed Rage Against The Machine themselves…

But not everyone is that concerned about the social issues that RATM raise in their music, something which gives their music even more credibility and relevance far beyond merely the musical value. But yes, some people do care about the same issues and do not need to express it through music they find harsh and aggressive. And others just want to have a good time…so be it.

Personally, I feel their music reflects a lot of strong sentiments to make a positive change, a change for the better through highlighting some of the negative things that exist in many of our societies today. Negative things that far surpass any swear-words or the like. Ultimately, this campaign has brought a lot of good by raising a lot of money for charities such as Shelter. If that isn’t what Christmas is all about I don’t know what is. More power to them!

  15. SHO says:

you are a bunch of morons!!!! talent is not just singing!!!!
is playing instruments, writing songs, performing, and singing or raping( raping in the RATM case)

talent is NOT just doing playback to a shitty plastic song

  16. JohnnyLeyland says:

This was never about who was going to or did win X factor, if your that blinded by your ignorance to not see that, I worry.

Its trying to change a small part of the ridiculous and awful world we live in.

I am Moved by what has happend and will never understand anyone that believes this was a bad thing.

  17. Jennion says:

RATM are one of the most politically charged bands of the past twenty years. Just look at the Killing in the Name lyrics, and then compare them to the lyrics of The Climb. The lyrics of Killing In the Name are more relevant today than any other song. And is Joe McElderry donating any of his profits to charity? Not as far as I know. This egotistical little runt who relies on karaoke talent shows to make a name for himself will be forgotten in a few years, whereas rage have been popular for years. And yet you all suck up this constant stream of Prolefeed (google it): X Factor, BGT, and perhaps the main offender and the most relevant, Big Brother. Even comparing album covers prove’s McElderry’s self worship:
McElderry: A black and white picture of himself looking BROODING and DEEP.
RATM (album): A photo of the famous vietnamese monk burning himself in protest against Buddhist oppression.
Learn the definition of talent, and music, you silly Proles.

  18. MAC FRANCIS says:

THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE AND THESE PIMPS NEED TO BE EXPOSED FOR WHAT THEY ARE.
CLOSE DOWN YOUR BROTHEL SIMON, WE ARE ON TO YOU BIG TIME!

I went to see a Curtis Stigers Jazz Quartet Concert at Newcastle City Hall last year, as we all know or should know, these musicians are among the best in the world and Curtis himself in the league of the very eminent among us as a skilled Composer, Musician and Performer. Needless to say the show was fantastic but sadly there was only about Six Hundred people in the hall, the upstairs closed and the downstairs only half full. We could blame many factors, (excuse the pun), but what ate a huge chunk out of my heart was whilst standing in the foyer during the interval, the walls were adorned with posters of one of these pop idol / xfactor kids having completely sold out his tour and with most venues having to put on a second night due to the huge demand. What is so sickening, the useless twats who bought tickets to see this “one song sung amateur” had only ever seen him perform a couple of ‘one verse one chorus’ audition songs on TV, and he didn’t even get through to the finals apparently. God help us please.
It takes my mind back to an Art Garfunkel interview I saw many years ago at one of these shit pretentious awards ceremonies where all these young (only ever sung 2 song twats) were winning all these awards as the best this and the best that. He responded by saying “this is a sad time for music”. I believe it is getting worse.

WELL DONE RAGE, WHO IS NEXT, I AND MANY MILLIONS ARE RIGHT BEHIND YOU?

    • Raven says:

A sad time for music indeed. The more involved these financially motivated ‘short term entertainment MACHINES’ have become, the more true artistic talent and creativity, has suffered. Because it crowds into the established musical scene, just like you pointed out. The less education that exists in a society, the less able the people will be to appreciate truly artistic things. They won’t be able to know the difference…this can be taken as a patronising thing to say, but I don’t mean it in a bad way. It would just take someone to open one book of music theory and have a look at the science of music with its many subjects such as scales and chord progressions and what not, to realise how infinitely deep it is.

A lot of people in this world are willing to sell themselves for a chance at the limelight, no matter the cost. And the faster they can have it, the better. They are willing to become puppets, willing to become part of this manipulative machine, for what they believe is a golden opportunity…and the fact that this circus has enough money behind it, it can invade the regular music arena and make music suffer with its presence. They have so much money on account of the people who watch it and buy into the artificial, shiny, bright lights, whipped into emotional attachment about something that is musically, quite vacuous, being as it is merely glorified karaoke which is truly artificial. THAT is sad for music indeed…
