X Factor: Joe McElderry finally hits number one!

Joe McElderry may have missed out on Christmas number one but yesterday he hit the New Year top spot, knocking Rage Against The Machine to number two.

Joe’s debut single ‘The Climb’ sold 196,000 copies in its second week, Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’ sold 69,000 copies.

Joe told The Mirror: “I am so happy that the single is No1. Thank you so much to everyone that has supported me – this has been the best Christmas ever and I want to wish everyone a very happy new year.”
