Last years X Factor winner, Leon Jackson has said that he won’t be comparing himself or his success to former winner, Leona Lewis when his debut album is released in October.

In an interview with the Daily Record, he insisted: “I’m not comparing myself with her, I’m different. It’s fantastic the success she’s had and I’m proud she managed to crack America. But it’s one thing at a time for me and I hope the album launch goes well for me – who knows what’ll happen.”

Simon Cowell confirmed this week that Jackson had been fully involved in the making of this album and that he believes it is really world class.

“I’m chuffed the record label have believed in me and have agreed I can be part of the creative process,” he explained. “It’s not about royalties because I’ve co-written songs, that doesn’t impress me, it’s being credible. I want to be a proper artist.

“If I had to compare it to a style I’d say James Morrison but it is my own sound and there are modern jazz elements.”

So will Leon succeed with this new album? A few weeks ago I was writing him off and I admit that I am not a big Leon fan. However Simon, Dannii, Louis and Cheryl do seem to be excited about his new album and Cowell has even stated that he thinks may do well outside the UK and not just in Scotland. So maybe I’ll be surprised….then again maybe he’ll do a Steve Brookstein and disappear into obscurity. Only time will tell.
