X Factor Live Show 2 - 27 October
Tonight’s X Factor was brought to you by “Songs From The Movies” and freaky Canadian warbler, Celine Dion. Not like she has a single to promote or anything. Anyway, here are our thoughts on tonight’s show…
After all the ‘dressed like hookers’ comments last week, Hope gave in and sang the ultimate hooker song. Their rendition of Lady Marmalade was a bit shaky to start with, but they eventually got into it. Shame about those day-glo costumes though… [Forum Discussion]
My pity goes out to Leon Jackson, who drew the short straw and got to sing Home, which is the new Westlife single. All so that Louis could plug the song on Saturday night TV. Worse still, once Leon sang the song, Louis and Simon destroyed him for having no charisma. Ouch. [Forum Discussion]
Beverley Trotman tackled Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing without a wig tonight and blew the roof off the place. The woman has some power in her voice, and I hope that she gets the mentoring she deserves. [Forum Discussion]
When Dermott introduced Sharon Osbourne, tonight, I’m fairly sure that he said she was mental, not a mentor. Certainly based on last week’s song choices and her outburst, perhaps ‘mentor’ isn’t an appropriate description.
Our thanks once again to ITV’s costume department for providing the laughs tonight with Alicia Bennett’s bright pink dress and matching oversized bow in her hair. Unfortunately, Alicia’s rendition of Say A Little Prayer wasn’t as outstanding as her clothing. [Forum Discussion]
Same Difference got to sing Breaking Free from High School Musical. Looks like the brother and sister act are being pigeonholed as a cheesy pop act. I believe the producers are racking their brains for sibling pop acts, and it’s only a matter of time before they get to do a Carpenters song. [Forum Discussion]
Louis had a sadistic moment when he picked Build Me Up, Buttercup for Daniel DeBourg. As Simon said, it was totally out of synch with what Daniel should be doing. I see him as a David Gray/James Blunt type of singer, but Louis is trying to make him favourite with the old ladies. [Forum Discussion]
Mr Creepy, Rhydian Roberts took a crack at Phantom Of The Opera. I swear this guy has sinister secret powers. What’s going on with his eyes? Can he melt steel with a gaze? I’d love to see him do a staring contest with Sarah from Same Difference!
Uh-oh! Simon has just uttered the words “World Class” in connection with a contestant. Does this mean Rhydian is marked for greatness? Watch this space. [Forum Discussion]
My heart went out to Emily Nakanda tonight. Singing Britney’s I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman, she was clearly uncomfortable from the start. With each bum note, you could see her confidence disappearing a little bit more each time. She may have started out as Simon’s vindication for lowering the age limit, but two weeks in and Emily is floundering. Is it talent or age? You tell me.
And what was that purple beret all about? Wardrobe department, with these ugly costumes you’re really spoiling us… [Forum Discussion]
Oh smooth. X Factor’s resident boyband Futureproof wowed the audience with a classy version of Wet Wet Wet’s If You Don’t Know Me By Now. The voices were good, their delivery was confident. One criticism - they didn’t move much on stage though. These guys might be in with a chance.
We don’t know what Minogue was smoking this week when she chose Stayin Alive for Andy Williams, but Andy managed to pull it off despite the abysmal song idea. Similar to Daniel’s song, the choice just doesn’t match how you’d expect Andy to be marketed. Give these guys decent material to work with to show us what they can do. [Forum Discussion]
No chest beating, Dion-esque theatrics from Niki Evans tonight as she tackled My Heart Will Go On. Although the dress was a regular cleavage-fest. She finished to rave reviews from the judges and favorable comparisons with Celine herself. [Forum Discussion]

I am totally p****d at the decision to send daniel home what the hell did the judges think they were doing? the thing is if alisha hazs been in the bottom two twice in a row the public obviously want her out. i think the judges are trying to save themselves by keeping the weakest link. what do you think?
