X Factor: Mark Hudson Thinks Leona Lewis Lacks Star Quality
Mark Hudson has admitted to The People this week that he thinks Leona Lewis lacks the star quality that she will need to become a successful artist.
He stated: “Leona’s voice is incredible and her stage presence and all that - but Leona is missing that other mystery ingredient,” Mark told The People. “It has nothing to do with her singing voice - it has to do with star quality. She just doesn’t have that ‘It’.
“It’s not just sex appeal but it’s this thing where it’s the control of using their face and their eyes to make people melt. And I actually say that to Leona every time before she goes on.
“If she could use her eyes to make people melt she could be a star anywhere. That’s what I want to work on with Leona.”

My estimation of him just dropped to zero.
My guess is though that this probably appeared in the Sunday People, am I right?. This is a notoriously Anti-Leona pro macdonald comic.
His comments have probably being completly rewritten and mis-quoted from what he actually said.
His comments were misinterpreted a bit however as they stood I agreed with them, Leona has a great voice and massive vocal range, however the sparkle isnt there, yet, she should have varied her style of singing even on an up tempo song the formats the same, 2 amazing performances in ‘Summertime’ and ‘I will always love you’ but the rest very much playing safe and not being daring like the other acts, Ben with the Queen song, fantastic, Ray awesome with My Way, Leona more of the same week on week,but definatelt a greatly talented lady vocally.Rod,Newcastle
this wasnt actually a newspaper twisting this, he said this on Xtra Factor: the Aftermath. I think he’s sort of right - not the star quality thing but she’s not particularly sexy if you know what i mean - in music videos their told to ’seduce the cameras’ lol! she definitely duznt have the charisma of nicole, pussycta dolls. but i love leona, she’s so talented. Ray to win!!
In my opinion, her outstanding performances were ‘Summertime’, ‘Sorry’ and ‘Could it be Magic’. These performances were her own arrangements and style.
My opinion of her dropped a notch when she did ‘I will allways love you’ it dropped another notch when she did ‘Without you’ all she needs to do now is the Titanic theme and that will be the end of her Career. People ar’nt interested in mimics, however vocally accomplished it is.
Sabrina, its a family show. Shes limited in what can she do in that respect. Thats why her dresses are so middle of the road as well (hot pants not allowed for ‘Lady marmalade’).
They seem to have the same problem on AI, all the girls wear long dresses, they don’t even show their knees.
Also I don’t agree on the Ray performance he tried to mimic Frank but his voice isn’t up to it. I don’t like mimics. Mimics belong on ‘Stars in their eyes’ not ‘X factor’. That goes for the Leona perfromances as well as I said in my previous post.
It seems like everyone is pushing quite hard on Leona and take her increadible voice and talent for granted. The competition is still no over. If she is missing star quality at this stage what do you want her to do in the next 10 months?? She is continuously developing. The most most important thing at this moment is to win the competition. Once that is accomplished then I bet she will become very confident and powerful. She seems to be natural and genuine in it. No matter what sort of ’star’ qualities people are missing in her right now I believe she will be a fenomenal singer and song maker and her music will be ‘bestsellers’.
She will be very successful but not anywhere near as big as Simon has built her up to be going to be in his view.She will be quite big for a time though.Rod.
