It’s been revealed today that plans for the X Factor musical are in moving on apace as it’s reported that British actor Alexander Hanson – who’s married to actress Samantha Bond – is tipped to have landed the role of playing music mogul Simon Cowell…
And part of his performance as the playboy multi-millionaire will feature him singing a parody track entitled, Falling In Love With Myself.
According to an insider, Harry Hill – who is of course writing the musical – had Simon “howling with laughter” when he met up with the Syco boss last week in London for a run-through of the musical so far.
But of the report that Alexander Hanson – who’s starred in musicals Marguerite, The Sound of Music and We Will Rock You – has landed the role of Simon, a show source told TV Biz, “He’s not exactly a Hollywood A-lister but he does a bloody good Simon Cowell.
“Simon had to admit he was the right man for the job.”
Hanson has previously appeared in a variety of TV shows including The Bill, Casualty and Auf Wiedersehen Pet.
After seeing last week’s run-through, Simon said, “The X Factor musical is sensational. It’s a yes from me.”
And a source said to be close to Simon added, “He genuinely loves it. Simon knows that many people see him as a bit of a cartoon character so he doesn’t mind having the p*** taken out of him.
“It’s a very funny script Harry Hill has put together and the songs are laugh-out-loud amusing.”
The musical is set to debut at the London Palladium in spring 2014. The paper adds, “Insiders said the show centres on a wannabe called Shenise and her journey from a caravan park to X Factor glory.
“To ramp up the emotion Shenise — said to be based on real-life X Factor winners Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis — reveals her dad has to use an iron lung.
“She provides a ‘SuBo’ moment and soon makes the finals.”
Here’s a clip featuring Hanson singing in another musical…
