Simon Cowell has been pictured with a strange plaster behind his ear.

The X Factor boss was cruising around LA in one of his many cars this week, when a photographer snapped a close up picture of his face. In the shot – published in The Sun – the music mogul is seen to be sporting a dressing behind his left ear lobe.

Sources close to Cowell told the newspaper that Simon had accidentally cut himself, though we can’t imagine how he would injure himself in such an obscure place. It all leaves us to wonder if the dressing is actually covering up a scar, sustained as a result of plastic surgery.

Scars behind ears are often a tell tale sign that someone has went under the knife for a face lift and let’s face it, Simon has previously admitted that he doesn’t have a problem with doing whatever it takes to look young.

Cowell once described Botox – which is injected into the face and forehead to relax frown lines – as ‘no more unusual than toothpaste’.

In a biography about his life – titled Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell – the music mogul enjoys twice-yearly Botox at a US clinic, regular colonic irrigation and intravenous vitamin injections to keep the wrinkles at bay.
