X Factor: Nick Grimshaw and Mel C despair for Frankie Cocozza

Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw has admitted that he didn’t enjoy Frankie Cocozza’s performance on last night’s X Factor show.

The 18 year old contestant sang ‘I Gotta feeling’ on the live episode and sparked a row between judges Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh, as they disagreed on the strength of his vocals and his chances of winning the series.

Speaking afterwards on The Xtra Factor, Nick admitted that he was on Louis’ side this time, explaining:

I don’t think it was a good song for him, he is the weakest singer here and that song didn’t do him any favours tonight.

Former Spice Girls singer Mel C doesn’t think the Brighton lad is as bad as people are claiming, but agrees that he’s not right for the ITV show. Admitting she’d rather see him in a band, she added:

I have spent weeks at home, screaming at the telly “Frankie you can’t sing!”, but I actually think he was good tonight. I thought his voice was alright but my problem is that he looked like he lost interest in the performance.

I don’t think he’s right for this show, he needs a band, he’s got the attitude and he’s not X Factor material.
