The sister of X Factor star Olly Murs has claimed that he wasn’t always confident and added that as a child, he was the shy one in the family.

In an interview with eadt.co.uk, Fay Murs said that at family parties, Olly was often found hiding under coats instead of hogging the limelight.

“He was a very different Olly to the one you see on TV. He wasn’t always the centre of attention and was certainly the quieter one,”

On when he first displayed a talent for singing, Fay said:

“I think we first really noticed his talent when he sang at my 18th birthday party. We didn’t push him into the music business, he just decided that where he wanted to be and he’s pursued it heart and soul.”

“I remember driving down Witham’s main street and seeing a poster in The George advertising a ‘Sing-along with Olly Night’. I couldn’t believe it. He’s not one to brag and when I quizzed him about it he was so laid-back. Even then he took everything in his stride.”

Fay admitted that Olly’s family aren’t getting much time with him at the minute, but added that they couldn’t be more proud.

“It’s just craziness at the shows, we’re so proud of him,” said Fay. “We can’t get near Olly because of the people flocking around him. After last Sunday’s show I asked him to sign a few photos for the people back home and he was like ‘Fay what you doing? I’m your brother, you don’t need my signature. Are you mad? I’ll be round your house soon.’ He did have a point! It all gets a bit crazy.”
