X Factor: Rachel Hylton Blames Media For Her Departure
It was an emotional Rachel Hylton who showed up for her X Factor press conference yesterday and the mother of five says that she blames the media for her exit from the show.
Rachel told reporters: "I really think it didn’t matter about my performance. Bottom line is I feel I’ve been judged on my past the whole way through this competition. I wasn’t given a chance."
Rachel then burst into tears and almost couldn’t continue with the conference as she talked about her past.
She said: "I’ve been given a lot of negative press coverage. I just feel it was really unfair. I know I’ve taken drugs, I know I’ve committed crimes and I am sorry.
"I didn’t mean to do them things. I’ve lost three kids and I’m nearly 27," she added, sobbing.
"I’m sorry to cry, but I’ve got to live with that every single day of my life. My oldest son is 13 and I don’t even know what his favourite colour is, that’s embarassing. It’s not something I’m proud of."

Lets face it Rachel coulnt sing a note worsed act on x factor that has got through this far. Always making excuses that the song was wrong ect!!! ect!!! No one else complained..
X-Factor if the sing off at the end of the show is for survival, to which Rachel sang note perfect.
Why did Simon vote her off because of previous weeks, surly thats note the rule, who sings best in the last 2 is the rule.
Going by Simons and Cheryl rule, Rachel fate had already been decided before the poor cow opened her mouth!!!!
Is thant fair????????????
To be honest, The only good performance ive seen from Rachel was her performance during the auditions. Im surprised she lasted this long. Everyone has a past and Rachel cannot use this as a reason for her vote off.
A few weeks ago Rachel was saved because she had not shown her best yet, this was about 6 weeks into the competition, others had shown their best, she was not judged on her performance that night, you never complained then. This was the only week Rachel gave a reasonable performance and even that was below standard of the others, the other acts improved every week and Rachel didn’t. She blames the media but they are the reason she stayed so long as they were gaining sympathy for her, its s singing competition not a sympathy competition. Its her own fault she does not know her children, she had the choice drugs/crime or keep her children. It is not her past that she was sent home for but the fact she was not very good, 3rd week in the bottom two says it all.
Has anyone else noticed how often she brought up her past in the interviews? She can blame the media all she wants for her exit, but the fact remains, she’s lucky she even got this far into the competition! She has got no variety in her voice, she can only sing soul music, and sounded rediculous when trying to sing anything else! As well as her ‘talent’ Rachel’s attitude did not particularly do her any favours. Who would want to work with someone with such a terrible attitude and lack of respect?!
Rachel had talent, she would not have been in the top six out of thousands and thousands of auditions if she did not. And, that should have been the end of it, after all it was a singing competetion. It’s not though, as media saying ‘look at what Rachel’s achieved turning her life around’ and ’shes very talented’ simply does not sell papers. Everyone is so quick to judge and the fact is they don’t no the facts and are ignerant to people make wrong decisions and the hardest thing is to admit that and turn that around. Rachel should be given huge respect for what she’s achieved and I admire her.
People are saying it was not a sympothy competition so can someone answer me why Daniel was in it so long? I was upset when he was voted out but not becasue he was talented but because I felt sorry for him; Rachel may have got some sympothy votes but many more ignerant people would have not voted for her despite her powerful voice purely on narrow minded judgements they made before she sang a note.
As for saying she was not diverse, wake up and listen to music today. People stick to the music they can sing. You dont here rock singers throwing in a soul or pop song. Rachel was a soul singer and in my opinion an extremely good one.
I admit her attitude did not do her any favours but neither did the media’s negative response to her and individuals pre-concieved, narrow minded oppinions.
Well done Rachel, I hope someone notices your alent and signs you!
As you say in your opinion she was talented, unfortunately a lot of people did not agree. I would noit vote for her as I did not like her singing she shouted, and it has nothing to do with her past, Rachel fans are using her past as a excuse for her not getting any further where in facdt it helped her stay in for weeks. Daniel improved each week and was doing better and he had the likeability factor.
This is a competition that anyone can enter. Anyone off the streets. Rachel entered it because clearly she has a gift and is wanting to turn her life around. You can see that she is coming from a long a way and I believe will eventually turn it around because she wants to make it in music and she will learn as she goes along because life has a way of teaching you through the feedback you get. She is a soul singer. Sade was one of the biggest popstars of the eighties and I cannot see her doing disco or even take that, it would have sounded ridiculous. So too with some many popstars of today or any other year. It is the way x factor is structured. They want to get the most versatile person. Rachel has a gift in soul and clearly it showed in the end. X factor did not suit her but it nevertheless gave her a platform and she has won fans which if she has the right backing can go on to use to have a successful career.
Yes, she does need to deal with her attitude but so must we all. In truth, Rachel being on the program has changed my life, because it has caused me to look at my own proudful attitude of heart and I have made a change for the better. I no longer look down on others or think I am owed something. So for that I do thank Rachel and hope that one day I can meet her and pass on what she has taught me not to be like and maybe that will help her change soon. But all in all I wish her all the best.
In my view, Rachel has a fantastic voice – when singing the right songs for her. When singing anything else, she didn’t sound good at all – but she was given loads of chances because people could see that she really is talented and they were waiting for a performance which matched expectations. At the beginning of the series I honestly thought she could win, but the fact is her performances weren’t consistent. I don’t believe people voted her off because of her past – in general the British public admire a fighter, and admire someone who wants to work hard to change their life for the better. I really hope someone signs her up for a record deal – I would definitely buy her album of soul music.
Here here Susi
Like many others I wasn’t influenced by any bad publicity but similarly I am not about to vote for anyone just ‘to give them a chance’. She herself droned on and on about her past. What with that and the various displays of ‘attitude’, it was clear that she had a whole bag of oven chips on her shoulder – let alone a chip. She effectively voted herself off. The fact is, we didn’t like her much.
