X Factor: Simon Cowell loves Rebecca Ferguson’s “fantastic” ‘Make You Feel My Love’ (VIDEO)

Like Aiden Grimshaw, Rebecca Ferguson played it loose with the American Anthem theme on tonight’s X Factor show.

She sang ‘Make You Feel My Love’, which was written by American singer/songwriter Bob Dylan but was made famous in the UK by Adele in 2008.

Becs stood on a podium, centre stage, dressed in a stunning sparkly maxi dress and the performance was all about the vocals for her. It was 100% flawless and the mum of two really couldn’t have done a better job with the song. Another amazing performance from Ms Ferguson! We loved it as did Cheryl Cole, who gave her a standing ovation at the end.

Judges Comments:

Louis Walsh: Rebecca people say that there’s no singing talent on this show, I hope they’re watching tonight. You stand out, you are special, you’re an amazing person and you have an effortless vocal. I can see you definitely having a recording career, I love everything about you.

Dannii Minogue: An amazing performance, you sang it with such soul. I love listening to you and I also love watching you perform. It’s very subtle, very understated but very passionate and you feel somehting when you watch you perform.

Cheryl Cole:
I want to say thank you for having the strength. My heart was pounding, my stomach was churning and the nation is willing you on Rebecca. It’s a pleasure to be working beside you.

Simon Cowell: That was absolutely fantastic. Seriously fantastic. Louis it’s easy to say that she’ll get a recording contract but for you Rebecca you need the confidence and self esteem and you want the public to give you something and to believe in you. By any standards, I think you would be the most incredible ambassador for this country and this show.

Am I the only one who didn’t like it? I couldn’t help but compare it to Gamu’s bit at bootcamp and I don’t feel Rebecca met that standard.

    • apps says:

      What a fantastic singer

    • Dawn says:

Totally agress fliss, outclassed by gamu. Don’t rate rebecca at all.

      • Belle says:

OUTCLASSES BY GAMU? dont make me laugh.

Compare those 2 performances and you can see someone trying to imitate Adele (Gamu) and someone who sings the song so beautifully that she outclassed the original singer, Dylan/Adele (Rebecca).

      • lee says:

its class that all the jelouse girls on here think rebecca wont make it haha she already made it thats y she still on the show and flying and as for gamu hasnt she been kicked out ov britain yet . is right rebecca do it for LIVERPOOL and ur KIDS .were not english were scouse dont worrie wot the cranks say ur flying there dien

      • Jan says:

Oh Dawn, how could you. Rebecca speaks so highly of you too!

  2. Lucie says:

    ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Sue says:

Among all acts of Cheryl, Rebecca is the most refined, capable and has more attitude.
Rebecca breathes jazz/blues, and this is very good!
    Go Rebecca Ferguson!!!!

  4. lo says:

congrats on making the song suck
how dare she sing gamu’s song

  5. Kate says:

have to say i do think Garth Brooks version is fantastic but after hearing rebecca’s version just blows me away!!

  6. alice says:

wow i coudnt help but compare it to gamu either. sorry rebecca, but you cant sing without taking a break which made gamu’s version better

  7. Loz says:

Love rebecca she is an amazing singer she speaks so differently to how she sings. AMAZING

  8. Loz says:

Love rebecca she is an amazing singer she speaks so differently to how she sings. AMAZING

  9. williNalli says:

I am in love with this girl! Can the show end now please? We already know who is going to be the most successful British star!!!

  10. Brilliant show tonight, Rebecca was fantastic as were Matt, Aiden and Treyc.

  11. Katie says:

How dare she sing Gamu’s song? A. It’s not her song. B. She’s out of the competition, just get over it. I didn’t even think Gamu was that fantastic to be honest and she became so popular because everyone was outraged she didn’t get picked and Katie and Cher did and then she was going to be sent home, blah, blah, blah. But she’s definitely better than Wagner, and some of the other people who got on the show lol.

LOVED Rebecca’s version. She sounded SO good.

  12. Phia Solly says:

This girl is amazing. So what if Gamu did it too? Gamu is behind the x factor now and will go on to have a successful music career. Rebecca will hopefully win the show and likewise have a successful career. I love Rebecca-she’s got to win! Like Si said: “The Matt and Rebecca show tonight!”

  13. Hmm says:

Rebecca was amazing tonight and she keeps getting better and better. I love the fact that she doesn’t need a bunch of dancers onstage and gimmicks to make her stand out. And to the people writing about Gamu, maybe you should skip over to the videos of the girls who didn’t perform well at judges house to voice your complaints. Rebecca was strong in her audition and she clearly deserves to be right where she is. I liked Gamu’s version but I loved Rebecca’s version because it was soulful and seemed really heartfelt.

  14. Lalou says:

I don’t know why people keep talking about Gamu and ” her song “. It’s not Gamu’s song. Rebecca was brillant tonight. She is amazing every week but tonight she just blow me away. Fantastic performance !

  15. nikki says:

Not being funny but Gamu sang that way better. Why nade rebecca sing that song? Obviously people will compare. And honestly she is not as good as gamu

  16. kurt says:

Rebecca was way better than Gamu. Gamu sang it exactly like Adele’s version – without making it her own. Rebecca, with her falsetto and such made it her own. Rebecca’s vulnurability, elegance and passions made it a world class’ performance. Visually beautiful and vocally breathtaking.

    • charlotte says:

I totally agree with you. Rebecca just didn’t copy Adele’s version, but she made it her own, by adding a bit of soul and some falsetto. Also there was no cracking in her voice, it was so smooth and flawless. Her vocals are just beautiful.

  17. Regan says:

i think everyone should just stop comparing rebecca to gamu!!! rebecca was amazing and she deserves to be in the competition, just cause gamu didnt make it through doesnt mean you can take it out on rebecca!!!! LOVE YOU REBECCA!

  18. Maureen Davison says:

Rebecca was fantastic tonight what a voice it’s so beautiful and she is heading to be a world class star – even if she doesn’t win X Factor. You hear her voice and know instantly that it’s her thats what makes a long lasting star and added to which she obvioulsy a really nice person – people knock the X Factor but would Rebecca have been discovered without a show like this? Vote For Rebecca!

  19. Peter Martin says:

Rebecca is the best by a mile and should win by a mile.
    Better than ever tonight.
Would love to hear her sing ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’ by Randy Crawford. She sounds a lot like Ms Crawford did in
    1980, possibly more accomplished.

    • Jane says:

Don’t make me laugh. Rebecca’s version was soulless. Gamu’s version was amazing, so full of passion and connected with the song completely. Watch it again on YouTube, it was 100 times better. I just don’t get Rebecca. Her voice is harsh and frankly it’s all getting a bit boring.

  20. Linda says:

Gamu? Please, don’t make me laugh. Don’t talk about Gamu on Rebecca’s thread. Rebecca owned this song, a million times better than Gamu, whose voice was always emotionless and robotic. Rebecca FTW, a true star in the making.

  21. mike says:

rebecca was good, but gamu was better i live in usa i know people wont like rebecca’s voice here

  22. bill says:

I live in USA as well douchebag, why do you think Amy Winehouse and Adele are so popular in the States?

We love voice like Rebecca, that is retro yet modern at the same time. Speak for yourself!

  23. bill says:

and in American Idol each year, there’s always people who have voices similar to Gamu’s. She’s not even unique, the whole fuss is because Cheryl picked Katie/Char over Gamu — which is of course a better singer, but she’s nothing compared to Rebecca.

  24. Rich says:

Bill, u live in America? who still says dougbag?- liar. Rebecca has a great voice but will not make it in here and to be honest neither would Gamu

But on this song, Gamu owned it – it sounds more personal with Gamu/ Adele but a bit polished and manufactured with Rebecca but still a good performance from her

Treyc actually would make it here but I do not like her

  25. bill says:

Wow, so no one says “douchebag” in America anymore? lol please check your fact straight mister.

Gamu isn’t as half as good as Rebecca. Compare Adele’s version with Gamu’s and Rebecca’s. There’s no difference between Gamu’s and Adele’s whereas in Rebecca’s version she made it her own with more emotional connection and those lovely falsetto.

I don’t get Gamu, she’s a better singer than Cher and Katie, but I really don’t think she has star quality whatsoever. It’s like Melinda Doolittle from American Idol (if you know/remember) — she’s a terrific singer but doesn’t have any star quality and look where she is now.

I agree TreyC could make it in America because she has a more commercial voice, but if Estelle, Corrine Bailey Ray and Amy Winehouse can make it why can’t Rebecca?

  26. Tracy says:

Rebecca is pure class. Gamu I think had to much attitude like the world owed her and I don’t think she was likable,Rebecca is an all rounder..Good luck to her..People who call it Gamu’s song??Seriously how old are you people…..10??..lol..

  27. Rich says:

Gamu’s version is different from adele’s and BTW, all this bull of making the song “ur own” aint everything

Gamu’s version sounds more like dylan’s version than Adele’s

Apart from winehouse, the other two were one hit wonders.

Dolittle was great but had nothing else, Gamu had personality, i think, maybe not the looks but she reminds me of India Arie AND Lauryn Hill

Rebecca wont make it here cos she will be eaten alive

  28. bill says:

Gamu wasn’t showing personality when she sang. You can see from her performances that she is a good singer with nothing that makes her stand out from other performers. Why people were complaining when they didn’t put her through? No, it wasn’t because of her SPECTACULAR voice — again it was because she was a better singer than Katie and Cher which Cheryl had picked. Lauryn Hill and India Arie both have personality and the looks. Gamu doesn’t come anywhere near Lauryn’s level and India’s style of singing is more Rebecca than Gamu and look at how successful she is.

Collin Bailey Rae was nominated for numerous Grammy awards , although I agree that Estelle’s a one hit wonder. I think she still has a good chance of making it here if there’s backing from Simon’s team.

  29. CracklinRosie says:

Rebecca is nothing short of amazing, and her performance of “To Make You Feel My Love” was world class. Gamu has a great voice, but she doesn’t have the star potential that Rebecca, Cher, and Katie all have. Not only did Cheryl make the right choices all the way around, I don’t even remember Gamu’s rendition of this song. She also initially lost me with that overrated audition reworking of “Walking on Sunshine” as “You’re My Sunshine”, with a few notes changed. That was an extremely desperate attempt to make the song her own, for which she went about it all wrong. Her voice was not up to par on that audition, either. Rebecca, Katie, Cher, Mary, or One Direction are my choices to win this.

  30. Nick says:

Rebecca is OUT OF THIS WORLD!! Her voice is sensational, he is beautiful and unique – AMAZING!!!

  31. Fishie says:

Rebecca is probably my facourite on the X Factor (after Wagner of course), but she shouldn’t have been given that song to sing. It was always going to be compared to when Gamu sang it and in my humble opinion Gamu’s version was much better. I can’t even remember Rebecca singing it and it hasn’t even been a week yet, but Gamu’s version is still in my mind and heart after all this time. Love you Gamu. Rebecca to win.

  32. Ryan says:

Gamu sucked; nothing more than a bland, boring voice and little runt of a singer with zero star appeal.

Rebecca is utterly fantastic, the best in this show; she made the sing her own and delivered it beautifully; this is what a true star is; and is getting better each week; she has class, the looks, a kind personality, and yet has even greater potential yet to come; and anyone that thinks she won’t make the US is either insane or too thick to understand the market potential of this star.

  33. Jamie says:

Rebecca Ferguson should win this charade of a show, she is amazing.

  34. keith says:

I don`t know why this Gamu is being mentioned.Judging it on singing and personality and talent Rebecca has it in bucket loads. I forcast she will become as famous as my Favorite shirley bassy. She is that good.
