X Factor rejected Sam Bailey six years ago! She blasts, “If I’d mentioned my dad was ill, I probably would’ve won!”
We reported earlier that X Factor finalist Sam Bailey’s brother Danny credits her with having saved his life after he appeared to be on track to die of a booze related illness, just as his and Sam’s dad Ronnie did six years ago.
And in a follow on to that story, Sam has revealed that at the time that her father was gravely ill, she tried out for X Factor, but was deemed to be not good enough and summarily sent packing after her first audition…
However, she’s reportedly claimed that if she’d told her “sob story” and revealed to the show’s producers that her father was extremely ill, she would not only have been put through to the next round on the talent quest, she would even have won that year!
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, Sam – who’s been favourite to win throughout this year’s contest – said, “I didn’t have a lot of belief in the show many moons ago because, for me, the people I thought were relatively good never made it.
“I auditioned in 2007 when my dad had about a month to live.
“I didn’t mention it because I didn’t want it to be about my dad dying.
“I sang in a little room for about 30 seconds and got told to go home and come back next year…
“I never did it again because I had lost all belief in the programme.”
She reportedly added, “I bet if I had mentioned back then that my dad was poorly I probably would have got through – I would have been in the final.
“I probably would have won it. That’s how I perceived it to be.”
Sam went on to say that she believes truly talented singers often don’t make it on the show while less gifted contestants – who have a sob story to tell – do.
She said, “I know so many people singing in pubs and clubs now who can p*ss over half the people who have been on this show – it really gets my back up.”
However, she concluded the interview by saying that she hopes that taking part in X Factor will change her life, and her family’s lives.
She said, “I’ve already started looking at houses around the corner from where we live which are a lot bigger.
“The most important thing is for me to provide a better life for my kids.”
