X Factor: Simon Cowell Admits That Rhydian Roberts Should Have Won

X Factor judge Simon Cowell has admitted that the wrong person won last years X Factor.

Earlier in the year Simon publicly backed Leon Jackson, the winner of the 2007 series, but since his album and single failed to top the charts this months it seems that Simon is losing interest.

In a recent interview with Piers Morgan Simon commented “If you are going to be a star, you need to have steel in your eyes. I don’t think last year’s winner had steel in his eyes.

The Times have also reported that Simon finds Leon lacking and speaking before Roberts’s recent performance of ‘The Impossible Dream’ on The X Factor, Cowell told the newspaper: "Well, I think he’s going to prove something tonight, which is that he should have won.

"I know I’m not supposed to say Rhydian should have won but it’s true. I believe that 100%."

Simon and the team are partly to blame for this. Its no good blaming the voting public all the time as they vote only with what they like and on this score the public is unqualified and prone to being swayed by televised commentaries. Remarks made in the negative will produce a positive response so such is life. Any knock at Leons performances provoked a massive vote in his favour.

We all knew Rhydian was robbed even if we didn’t like the guy from the persona displayed and written about this left audiences confused but for those people who are qualified to judge singers and singing, Rhydian was the singer and Leon the boy crooner from next door.

Simon and the crew don’t seem to be doing a good job mentoring and understanding the pyschology behind a critique.

The same happens with the Strictly come dancing judges. You have to really mark time on your words to get the results you like.

No comment is better on screen than slating an effort or thank you for coming this far and just leaving it at that.

Some people are swayed by the judges votes on tv talent shows, but not all. Although Rhydian did get some negative criticism from the judges mainly for a couple of badly chosen tracks, his performances were strong from the first day of the live shows and I used to look forward to watching him every week. I could see the expression in Simon’s face when he was watching Rhydian returning to perform on the X-factor this year, that he felt he should have won last year’s show. I feel People chose Leon because they saw him go through a journey and his style of music was more mainstream. I feel Rhydian not winning the X-factor last year was a travesty, but his album is selling for almost twice as much as the winners so that speaks for itself. Not winning didn’t do Lemar from Fame Academy any harm and I strongly believe this will be the same for Rhydian, as he has star quality.

I just don’t understand the human persona (as in the personality of some) when it comes to these situation as in judging others. There are people who voted for Leon because they believe that he is worth voting for and could make a mark in the music industry, and up until this day still cling onto that belief no matter what happens. I call them real people. Now, there are people who voted for Leon thinking at first that they believe in him but that belief slowly diminishes only because he didn’t make it in the number one spot in the music industry, and worst blaming the people responsible for making him win, well I am sorry to say these people are hypocrites because you are worst than the people who didn’t vote. Now, for those people who didn’t vote, it’s justifiable to say what you think but put moderation because we, ourselves don’t want to be criticized severely as you are doing now. Rhydian and Leon are different people with different skill and training. You can say Rhydian is far more talented than Leon but it’s so immature to say Leon is ‘useless’ and all those things so vile to say. For his family he is not useless and even to his friends. I don’t know why people are so much affected by last year’s winner and his performance this year. What’s with the comparison? And with all this rubbish, you cannot erase the fact that Leon Jackson won last year’s XFactor. Let’s just hope that both can do good in the music industry. I’m for Rhydian and for Leon.
