X factor: Simon Cowell Is Fed Up With Pop Music!

Simon Cowell has admitted this week that he is quickly growing sick of pop music and intends to turn his attention towards church music instead.

The X Factor judge is promoting his new group Angelis, who were put together after Cowell sent a group of experts to find the best choir singers in Britain. The six young choristers who impressed the judges have now been signed to the SonyBMG record label.

“Pop was my lifeblood – but I haven’t looked at the Top 40 for months,” Cowell told The Times. “I discovered the power of these wonderful choral voices. I think this is the kind of music that people now want to hear. It captures a popular mood.”

He added: “The choristers we auditioned were not stage school monsters. They had a background in public singing and good parents who supported them. They weren’t starstruck. They just wanted to sing well.”

Does this mean he won’t be doing any more X Factor or American Idol shows?

I remember him saying during the auditions (when a religious woman performed) that there was a huge market in Christian music. He’s showing his usual good business sense by following this line.

JesusTM, I’m turning into a Simon Cowell groupie!

  2. Polly Esbeth says:

He makes this comment about ’stage school monsters’, but yet doesnt he realise that one of his Angelis singers is from the infamous Sylvia young stage school?? Bet you didnt know that Simon!! one of the girls is in my daughters class there!!

  3. ROD BELL says:

I THINK ITS CLEAR HE’S NOT ONLY FED UP WITH POP MUSIC BUT IS ALSO OUT OF TOUCH WITH IT TOO,Eesp the way he is so shockingly mentoring his acts this year on Xfactor,HE DOESNT SEEM TO HAVE A CLUE THIS YEAR.The other factor is that it now seems the public ARE fed up with his arrogance and particularly this year his bullying and openly insulting bad mannered behaviour to those in the Xfactor and beyond it who are watching. He’s lost his respect and credibility and should now move over and let others do the job with more basic decency.HE OWES MANY people in SCOTLAND and THE MacDONALD BROTHERS AND THEIR PARENTS ONE MASSIVE APOLOGY FOR HIS APPALLING BEHAVIOUR,THE SHOWS PRODUCERS ,IF, THEY WANT X FACTOR TO END WITH ANY CREDIBILITY THIS YEAR SHOULD FORCE HIM TO DO SO AND NOT ENCOURAGE HIS SHOCKING TIRADE OF ABUSE AND BULLYING .ROD,NEWCASTLE.

  4. xambax says:

well i think that he is hot! hehe
and i think he knows his music too and if he is bord of pop now! then thats that!!!

  5. ROD BELL says:

I think he USED to know music inside out,I greatly respected his views because although threy were tough and hard to swallow they were within decency dounds, this year thats changed and hhe is a professional bully, with far reching consequences even just to thousands of people with the name MacDONALD or MacDOUGALL, I hate bullying in any form, his comments to DIONNE being like a boxer when that poor girl had to fight bullying when younger was dusgraceful,THE MacDONALDS as Sharon said deserved a medal for coming on week after week to be ripped apart by him.HOW torturous to have to come out and appesar confident and professional to know that the playgrounfd bully (Simon) would be there at the end to lay into them.Shocking and if that behaviour earns Simon admiration and respect from people then in this world with his kind of people it really is a case of GOD HELP US.its frightening really.ROD,Newcastle.

  6. BIGNIKKIFAN says:

The problem is that even though the Mcdonald Brothers have nice voices they dont deserve to win. But they could do by default because if Simon carries on with this slating the public, like I have said before, love an underdog, and they could win.

That is the problem this year, its too personal. I feel sorry for Simon’s acts left because they are being used as pawns to get back at Simon.

Simon please kept your comments minimal or you could do an injustice to the whole reason for the show.

I think it will be between Ben and Eton Road but I do agree Leona has a great chance, but I cant see her getting many votes the way the show is going.

  7. ROD BELL says:

I agree with you BIGNIKKIFAN but do you not also think that SIMON has mentored really badly this year, iys like he hasn’ta a clue how to bring out the best of the 16 to 24 yr olds. NIKITTA sang a beautiful song in auditions and boot camp, htat way of singing could have done wonders for her,he gave her rediculous songs,ASHLEY he destroyed, he KNEW waht made him want ASHLEY and what he could do but saddled him with complex songs way out of his style or comfort zone, with RAY hes’s going the other way mow chanelling all to his way of singing which as Saturday showed is irritating the public.LEONA with the exception of A REALLY GREAT performance of SUMMERTIME is doing the same routine each week, the gentle start, mini build up then more forceful singing with a high exteneded note somewhere. even in that it was ROBERT who showed on Saturday how that all should be done and he eclipsed LEONA . TO ME,IN MY OPINION ,SIMON’S LOST HIS TOUCH THIS YEAR and his descent into professional bullying, questionig the viewers decisions and the rise of he shocking bad manners leaves me to think that with the 16 to 24 group HE IS WAY out of his depth to cope.I agree that BEN and ETON ROAD should be finalists, BUT if sharon GROOMS robert HE COULD BEN.ETON ROAD THOUGH ARE FUN, GET ON WITH THE SINGING and PERFORM differently each week, showing their versatility, fresh and new so should attract mass appeal and NEVER over dramatasing what they sing.ROD.Newcastle

  8. BIGNIKKIFAN says:

Yes I agree with your comments. I think Sharon has had the stronger group from the start and I am wondering if Simon has let contestants from previous rounds slip through his fingers. There were a lot of young singers in the auditions that I thought were great.

I also think that have these so called ‘themed’ weeks is ridiculous. Just let them sing what they want. I think Ashley would still be there if this was the case.

Robert has got a great voice has I was really impressed this week but then saying that Ben has a really good chance of winning because he has made every song his own, and he has a very unique voice and has been consistently good, plus having the whole image package as well. Sharon does seem to give her acts more confidence and seems to take more care that they are happy with their song choices.

Maybe Simon is now getting bored with x factor, he doesn’t seem to have the same spark that he used to have but then I suppose he is really busy and cannot given 100% to this project.

Now we agree on the x factor how about agreeing on ‘Nikki’. HA HA joke!!

  9. BIGNIKKIFAN says:

I forgot to say that if Simon continues down this path there is no way he will have an act left in the final or even the last four.

But saying that if Simon did hang up his reins and left the show would not be the same. Difficult choice.

  10. ROD BELL says:

100% in agreement with you on that BIGNIKKIFAN, actually Ive revised my opinion of NIKKI somewhat,I was looking back at a BB i taped and she was in the diary room and was speaking softly and about PETE and his condiyion, she was upset that someone so nice had that problem and seemed very sincere. I thought that I may have been harsh towarrds her and maybe its a confidence thing with her ‘over excitedness’ etc,She seemed very genuine in what she was saying and I admired her for that.I totally agree with the daft themed weeks, they have destroyed a lot of good talent coming out this year, the time to experiment is in boot camp NOT when the actts have to go onstage and perform not only to the audience and judges but the voting public too.the themed weeks is just another VERY BAD idea of Simons this year, I think he is bored with X FACTOR so should perhaps oversee it and appear now and then but after this year he is wreckimg not only respect he had but also his credibility.Whatever, he’s always been professional and accepting of the viewers votes but this year as things havent gone his way most of the time he has now descended into insults, and bullying, esp TO MacDONALDS,and shown massive disrespec to their parents and masses of people in SCOTLAND called MacDonald, it may seem a silly point but believe me the SCOTS hate their surnames disrespected, the sad thing is he doesnt ‘get’ it.AH well lets see what happens this week, wonder if LEONA will still be cleaning windows as she sings. Will RAY do ANOTHER murderous act on ’swinging’ a song and Im dying to see if LOUIS does have his acts singing a SCISSOR SISTERS and PUSSYCAT DOLLS song. ROD.Newcastle

  11. BIGNIKKIFAN says:

Good comments. The voice of reason.

I am glad you have changed you mind about a certain other housemate. I really wish her all the best and I think she really is trying to change her behaviour. She always appeared genuine to me which is why I like her.

Unfortunately I wont be able to see Saturday’s show so I will have to catch up on Sunday. I do hope he refrains from ridicule. It does not win in the end. He could shoot himself in the foot but Simon not on the x factor would seem strange.

I am hoping talent wins in the end so I think either Ray of MacDonald Brothers should go to be honest based on talent alone.

But I can see another upset coming – oh dear.

  12. BIGNIKKIFAN says:

If they do this show again next year I think there should not be group categories. Just twelve good acts and not assigned to any judge. You could still have all ages and groups amongst the twelve but obviously it is getting so personal and if you are with Simon there is no chance you will win by association.

  13. ROD BELL says:

WE ARE IN AGREEMNT ‘BIGNIKKIFAN’. I think the 16 to 24 group is the one Simon always wanted and once he had it didn’t have a clue how to build on it,I think he sent stronger acts out altogether and has crippled them with the themed weeks, I actually also agree just 12 acts across the board rather than split groups, then againn with the public voting anyway I dont see why the judges need to decide to who goes out, the viewrs will have put someone last so that should be that, judges comment by all means but once the finals start then its the viewers who say who goes, after all they are asking the viewers to keep acts in so who comes last MUST be the one they want out,why have a run off between the last 2 and create conflict after the public have already made a decision.ROD,Newcastle

  14. BIGNIKKIFAN says:

I actually these producers like having friction on these type of shows. They think the public like it.

    They are so wrong.

I want to be entertained and wowed by their talent and as soon as it gets nasty it puts me off.

I dont find over critical comments and personal attacks on their character one bit funny or entertaining. Thats just me. I agree it should be up to the public who decides who goes, but then the producers just love the friction, like I said.

But they are shooting themselves in the foot because many people are becoming bored of the show’s concept and would rather watch Stictly come dancing. There they rely on the public vote. Much fairer!!

  15. ROD BELL says:

BIGNIKKIFAN Ive sent an email to X FACTOR saying if SIMONS fed up with music and x factor that we will organise it next year.ROD,Newcastle

  16. Maureen says:

Rod that sounds like a fantastic idea. Think of all the rock bands we could put through. There really are some amazing sounds coming from our region and they never get beyond it.

Think about it, we never see any real musicians do we everything is also done by backing disc. One great big advanced karaoke.

We could definitely do better than the programme, I am certain of that.

  17. ROD BELL says:

Absolutely Maureen, I doubt we could do any worse and likely a whole lot better. Rod.

  18. Maureen says:

On the subject of Simon being bored, I find this a difficult issue as the majority if his vast wealth has come from the pop industry. Although I must admit very little real talent has come through the pop industry over the last twenty years so becoming bored or struck with the taudry nature of what the pop scene has become I would say is normal.

The biggest loss to the pop scene has been TOP OF THE POPS because this programme the flagship of British pop music was failing to draw viewing statistics it was dropped. As a result of this the goalpost has been removed from many a wanabe artist maybe going for success in the charts instead it reinforces the ‘LONG AND WINDING ROAD’ route.

This leaves the regions which are not represented in any pop chart at all, as these are the real bands of musicians and singers struggling to survive as such in the localities to which they have become known. Even large arts organisations are relying on sponsorships from large businesses and corporations for sustainable funding. As the government recognise that the msuic industry as always is a private one, realising the minimal chances of success within it, central funding has thus been withdrawn.

I have been to a number of music industry events over the years and the apathy from within makes me wonder just how much longer some of these recording companies can last. Especially since they don’t sign up new solo artists or groups.

In reality todays singers and musicians are left with one or five choices or maybe a combination of them all. A reality TV talent shows or the continued struggle working in the regions or begging for financial assistance via reality TV money programmes, internet satelite radio stations and finally the internet websites, the potential of which has not reached its peak. In actual fact a question raised at one of these music events suggested that artists irrespective of who they were or what genre of music they performed had no other alternative but to make it on there own and to create the biggest national fan base possible…before a record company might sign them. Also favourable for those who wrote and performed there own music was holding a publishing contract.

So the industry only offers so many chances a year, but the pool of talent is really frighteningly large. As I am writing this already this week I have spent hours mentoring and hope that it has guided the really keen and gifted in the right direction From pop to classical.

I am never bored with the artists I speak to, but if I had to talk with the top twenty spot takers today I would really be bored. Because I Am tired of everything lacking in sound quality and significance. Todays chart scene is seriously below mediocrity and this is truly sad because out in the real world talent does exist.

So if Simon is bored maybe he should take a back seat for a while and allow others to take his place in these money making reality Talent TV programmes. This would give him a chance to maybe learn something of the relious music scene of gospel singers and classical artists, maybe even a revival of folk music could be on the cards. Who knows. The industry doors have only opened a meagre way for classical artists, folk artists and dare I Say it but real rockers and blues singers.

Do you think he is likely to take a back seat?

    I don’t.
