X Factor: Simon Cowell pushing for Joe McElderry to win?

Simon Cowell has reportedly been encouraging his fellow X Factor judges to big up young Joe McElderry, as he believes he should win this year’s series of the show.

This weekend saw the judges give Joe his second standing ovation, after he sang Elton John’s ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’. Dannii Minogue gushed:

“There hasn’t been a song sung in this competition with more passion than that.

“I have to see you in the final. Please vote for Joe.”

The 18 year old has never been in the bottom two and insiders are reporting that Mr Cowell hopes to capitalise on this by pushing him into the final and beyond.

An insider told The Sun: “Joe is the winner in Simon’s eyes.

“He’s been bigging up Joe when the judges are around.

“The others are not happy. But the bottom line with Simon is, ‘Who will sell records?’”

I suspect this story will be the catalyst for “Tall poppy syndrome” to finally touch Joe.

The more these stories come up the more I’m convinced the whole thing is fixed for Joe to win. When Jedward were in it and doing well, people were complaining it was fixed but now? Not a word…why is that?

I don’t like Joe, he does nothing for me at all. He should be in Joseph or Grease… he’s not a pop star. If he wins he’ll be joining Leon Jackson and Steve Brookstein.

He will NOT sell records – he’s a really good singer and i like him; but he’s far too West End for me. Who is Steve Brookstein? Was he the first winner? I’m not playing dumb I genuinely don’t know and Leon was a complete fail

To be honest I don’t believe this story. I think hes the best singer. Although hes not a dancer/entertainer like Olly, has a big personality like Stacey and has the (cocky?)attitude of Daniel hes missing those things but i’m sure they’ll come later on in life. Trying to be objective hope im doing a good job of it even though hes my favourite.

In case people don’t know what ‘tall poppy syndrome’ means because I had to look it up it means people criticising other people because their talents elevate them from their peers. The second meaning is someone in a social position who’s an attention seeker, presumptuous and without merit

After having a great first audition and being the perceived front-runner, the tabloids cut down Danyl with stories filled with rumour and innuendo and now Team Stacey is mounting their own Danyl smear campaign with more tabloid stories (and without proof).

I suspect Joe and Stacey will get their turn in the mill this week.

  5. Merylin says:

I like Joe, he seems like a really great and nice guy and he has a great voice. But his presence and personality is just not that “superstary”, he (an actually his voice as well) is too nice/boring imho.

  6. Kun says:

I hope Joe doesn’t win, but to be honest I’m sure he will.

Personally, he doesn’t do anything for me…
I think Simon wants Stacey out next to be honest.
Because Danyl/Olly win = one of his acts.
Joe = I think Simon really does like him.

    Whereas…
Stacey = part of team Dannii and last week he called her a “wedding singer” (ouch). I only can suspect for the remaining time she’s there, he’ll begin to be more harsh with his criticism [towards her]. I can only wish her well and vote :-) .

“I don’t like Joe, he does nothing for me at all. He should be in Joseph or Grease… he’s not a pop star. If he wins he’ll be joining Leon Jackson and Steve Brookstein”…. Hold on a minute here! On what authority do you speak to say: “I don’t like Joe” Do you know the guy? Has he done something to harm you? I think, people like you need to take a course in how to express yourself a bit more precisely, without coming across like some half wit. If you are trying to say, that you prefer someone else to win, say so! But be sensible about it. I am tired reading stupid comments lacking in thought or proper critique. And for the record; the only superior singer remaining in this competition is Joseph McElderry and I defy anyone out there to prove otherwise with their hand on their heart. Why lie to yourselves? You have hearing, don’t deny what is true, if you do, you deny your true yourself! Listen to the lad sing and for God sake acknowledge it!

The litany of hate and confusion, read it! Does it it make you feel proud to be British? Is there truth or love in these written words? Is it a fair critique on Joe’s singing ability? Read and decide…and see what your answer will be! Here goes:…. “I suspect this story will be the catalyst for “Tall poppy syndrome” to finally touch Joe” “The more these stories come up the more I’m convinced the whole thing is fixed for Joe to win” “I don’t like Joe, he does nothing for me at all” “He should be in Joseph or Grease… he’s not a pop star” “I suspect Joe and Stacey will get their turn in the mill this week” “like Joe, he seems like a really great and nice guy and he has a great voice. But his presence and personality is just not that “superstary”, he (an actually his voice as well) is too nice/boring imho” “I hope Joe doesn’t win, but to be honest I’m sure he will”

I am sick and tired of reading nonsensical and vindictive comments, from people trying to score a point, without making some form of intelligent and constructive critique. If you like someone, say so! if you oppose someones choice, say so, but with reason and consideration, if you want someone to win, say so, if you dislike someones singing, say so, but, please give an intelligent reason as to why that is! Remember! this is the world wide web. What you put on here is for the whole world to see and also to judge you and me! It dose not paint a pretty picture!
