X Factor: Single Mum Natasha Benjamin
Facing the judges is single mum Natasha who brings her 7 year old daughter Jasmine along to the Birmingham auditions. Having escaped a violent relationship, Natasha is now coping on her own and wants to give her daughter a better life and put the past behind her.
A nervous Natasha explains to the judges her reasons for bringing Jasmine along. “We’ve been through a lot over the past couple of years and I feel that I’ve put her through a lot. Right now feels like a turning point for me and I want her to see her mum actually achieve and get further in life.” Sharon gently asks “why has it been so bad?” “I left a violent relationship and it got to the point where a weapon was used and I could have lost my life. Since then I’ve moved away from my home, my family and everything.”
Louis invites Jasmine to join him, Simon, Dannii and Sharon on the panel while her mum sings Toni Braxton’s Unbreak My Heart. Simon instructs Jasmine on the rules of judging: “no laughing and you can’t be mean!”
After her performance a tearful Natasha waits for the Judges responses, “you’ve got a lot of passion but not the best I’ve seen today” says Sharon and Dannii feels that she’d, “like to see you sing happy things because I think that’s what you are a happy person” to which Natasha says, “that is so touching, because that is what has happened, normally I would sing happy songs, but life has been quite hard”. But with three yes’s needed to get through, will the Judges feel that Natasha deserves a break in life and give her a life line?
