X Factor Single Was Not Meant For Ray Quinn!
I am just listening to Ray Quinn perform the X factor winners single ‘A Moment Like This’ and the more I hear, the more I know this ong was never meant for him.
He is doing the song no justice at all, and I think up until this Ray has had a fantastic night.
I only hope the votes aren’t as close as Kate Thornton would have us believe, or this could really harm his chances.

why are they trying to market ickle Ray as a Robbie-cum-Frank wannabe? I just don’t get it. He is a child! he doesn’t have the seX appeal to be portrayed as that character - and his dodgy american singing voice is really grating. Leona - yeah, she’s a bit better than Ray, her voice has more to it, but I don’t understand why everyone keeps raving over her - she’s just like most other black female singers in their early twenties… Even Jamelia has more going for her than Leona, certainly she has more personality. What is the point of the X Factor after the audition programmes are over anyway? Dull - and not really worth watching the end of…

I agree. The second he started singing it I shouted at the screen. Kelly Clarkson’s song - meant for people with voices like her. Poor Ray. I fear that may have been the turning point ):

well……..i think ray was amazing tonite and proved to us all that he has the xfactor and deserved to be in that final along with leona!!!ray i think you really brought something special and original to this years show and it would not have been the same without you swinging those sexy hips, haha!!never stop swinging ray!!!all my love madeleine grace in oxford x x x
December 17th, 2006 at 2:38 pm
ye i think everyone knew that the winners single was just not one 4 Ray (i mean it was really good but suited leona more), n i also hope that it didnt affect his chances of winning because if it did i think every fan of his out there of his (including me) would be gutted. xxxxxxxxxxcharlottexxxxxxxx
Ray ya gona get far even though you didnt win cause your so special and talented xxxxxxxx
December 17th, 2006 at 3:17 pm
i reaaly dont want to offend leona because shes so talented and has an outstanding voice, but she did have an unfair advantage over Ray because that song “a moment in time” wasn’t one for Ray and i think that simon picked the wrong song, sorry but in my opinion that last peformace decided who the winner was……. Ray would of won otherwise.xxxxxxxxcharlottexxxxxxxx

I did not like Ray at the beginning but he grew on me towards the end. He is a great entertainer but I do not think he is a pop star. Leona has the best voice I have ever heard. She should never have been on the X factor because she is far too good for it. I always thought Whitney had a fantastic voice. But Leona knocked her into touch when she sang Whitneys song. Her duet with Take That did them no favours because she sang the socks off them. She is only young and will only get better with time, if thats possible because she is already number one in my bok. I do not think she is brilliantly attractive but when I listen to any of her CD’s then I will not be watching her or taking any notice of her personality. She is just a shy girl and her personality will grow in time.
December 17th, 2006 at 5:29 pm
Everyone is right. The song really suited Leona and up until that song I am sure Ray was in front.
It was a very hard song to sing and it was unfair that it was chosen.
Why couldn’t they have an orginal song. I feel they are both cheated in a way.
Any way well done Leona. Ray was a real gent in defeat and will also become successful I am sure.
December 17th, 2006 at 11:14 pm
Excuse me but please, LEONA is 21, most female singers by the time they are 21 have done loads, Leona was one of the oldest contestants, older than all of Eton road, MacDonalds and the oldest in Simons group, Ages ago female singers were far younger than Leona when they’d had some years of success, SHE’S a woman at 21 not a young girl at all.Katie Melua was a young girl when she started, nowhere near 21 either. Rod

Leona deserved to win, I just hope that the recording company allow her to develop her voice throughout, so that she doesn’t just have strength in her belt range.
For a pop voice 21 is still young, but by the time that is if the industry allows it, she matures into having a more settled voice we may hear some quality on the soft edges and with a little bit of luck the lower notes might decide to produce themselves. At the moment these notes in Leona are forced and not natural. I’m also thinking here of voices like Gladys Knight or Sheila Ferguson and many others who have developed over time, in there mid twenties there voices had rounded off and become far more beautiful with the added years of maturity and of course learning the craft.
Leona has a long way to go, so maybe winning this is the start of a brilliant career. We should wish her the best of luck.

OH I wish her luck of course and agree mostly that voices will improve later, but she’s been presented as this highly talented, vulnerable young girl when in reality she’s an able competent woman of 21.I think a lot of acting has been going on as now she’s finding her teeth rather. A s for this dire song, In reality I was reminded of Ben saying it was geared to Leona only, I frankly couldnt see any other of the 12 finalists other than Leona that this song could suit,as for buying it,without the x factor hype I think even by Leona it would quickly have slipped into obscurity. Awful choice for a first single, another artistes old hit anyway. The sad thing is it could well be made TOO BIG to ever get a substantial follow up/s to which would make Leona seem in the descent rather than ascent.By the way can anyone tell me hoe even up to the last few minutes supposedly being too close to call with the one in the lead changing all the time that Leona got 60% of the vote, a near landslide of votes to her I’d call that not a near neck and neck thing, that means 4,800.000 votes went to Leona and 3,200,000 to Ray. Too close to call, they’ve a pretty poor system then with over 1,000,000 votes between the only 2 acts left. They think we ae idiots.maybe after this years x factor we will live and learn and question more next year.Rod.

December 22nd, 2006 at 12:51 am
I just watched some re-runs of Rays audition and first rounds and he was fabulous. In fact better then than on the x factor show.
He is obvious better live and without drowning music in the background.
Very very impressed.

About the Whitney comment - Whitney Houston is FAR better than Leona!!! would buy whitneys records any day. I have been in loads of music shops these past few days and in not one have I saw Leonas record sold out in fact hardly one has been bought . As for Take That (and the album) loads were being bought right under my nose!!!
December 22nd, 2006 at 12:55 am
Rebecca I really believe Ray will last far longer than Leona as he is virtually Mr Entertainment, He may not score chart toppers but he’ll sell albums I think depending on Leonas will to succeed or after a couple of years settle down then she will fall into decline albeit very slowly after the initial success of this single, The States is the key and she will need to sharpen up to entertain as they crave the whole paage over there, Ray I can see still recording and entertaining when he’s in his 70s.Rod.

That should read the whole package .just in case nitpicker GP comes to this section to point out more faults against people who dont agree with him.Rod.

The winners single didn`t suit anyone other than Leona. Te hype surronding her is unjustified. Ben, Eton Rd, Robert + Ray were all better than her.

Apologies, for having a little laugh here and there. It seems like we have a Ray dating come fan club starting here.
Rod the voting system is rubbish isn’t it?
Maybe that’s change no 6 they could bring next year one phone one vote.
That way you’d get a more honest representation.

Absolutely Maureen but I can never see that as its the multiple calls money they want. The voting can be made more open and visual to the viewers though,I mean we never really get any breakdown at all throughout the finals weeks as to who got what,I dont understand whay.Rod.

LEONA DID NOT DESERVE TO WIN!!!!! She has a good voice but had an unfair advantage having been paid to keep quiet, had voice coaching from professionals with links to Simon Cowell. It was not the right competition for her and anyway why should she have been allowed to continue having already been in the charts when Avenue were kicked out, the songs were picked for her and details of her musical background deleted off the net. All this and she is still play acting at being shy when she is an actual professional singer. We also don’t know exactly how many votes have been cast they can say ANYTHING!!

Personally along with ETON ROAD who should have fared better on x factor, from the final as far as I’m concerned Ray WAS the real winner, he has the WHOLE package, voice, style, interotration of a song and amazing stage presence. His entertainment value is top rate and I applaud his success, hard won and well deserved. Rod.

To the best of my knowledge. Ray won’t be releasing any singles.
As he has successfully released an album disc and has been ahead of BEN, this is a good sign of his increased chances of surviving with a musical recording career.
The album is very good. I do hope though that over the longterm sales are maintained and that demand remains high. If not there will be no demand for another and sadly Ray would end up dropped from the recording company like many before him.

BTW Helen you misunderstand what it means to be professional.
So here are some definitions.
Professional can mean simply paid.
This does not mean you are any good, or talented ‘just that you are paid’.
For example many social club acts call themselves professional because they are paid. Whether these acts are any good or not will vary according to public opinion or how many pints someone has down there neck. Reaching this status of being paid means that someone has managed to sing or play an instrument. It is not necessary that they have the ability to read music they may infact play or sing by ear. For the majority of artists at this level it can be lucrative depending on how much work they do in a week. Certainly the acquisition of an agent or management concern is desirable but before one is willing to take such artists on, a business plan for the survival of the artist or group is a must.
‘Professional standards’ means you are likely to be unpaid as a performing artist, but may well have learnt to play an instrument or sing to a certain standard.
Musicians and singers in this category may well have a fantastic portfolio of awards, qualifications and training and in addition experience gained from various areas of performance. Talent shows, for television, radio, the internet, regional talent competitions or prestigious entry into peer group competitions where ‘like kind competes against like kind’. Sometimes these people desire to become paid professionals but untill that day arrives they will be forced to do alternative work. Teaching, in offices, in banks anywhere which pays a salary to put bread and butter on the table. Music is therefore a major hobby and these people will often be found on the internet or as members of local societies specialising in music or drama etc. Sometimes the standards are so high you’d never know the difference between the performance of the local group and that of the visiting touring company to the local theatre. BUMS on seats philosopy still rules. Some people in this category call themselve semi professional for the very reason that they cannot give 100% of there time to there art. All in all at this level you may well have professional standards but you are ultimately an investor and consumer of the music industry. This means it costs you. LEONA LEWIS fits this category.
The Amateur may or may not have any experience at all, but is willing to try there hand at competitions as and when they come up. These people could well be in a low income or none income group and regard the entering of talent shows as primarily for them, believing that raw talent is discovered this way. For these people getting the opportunity is like winning the lottery, they have no plans and have never studied to any extent or become true consumers of the entertainment industry. Over time some may feel inclined to join a local society, but will only survive any length of time if they are able to compete with the professional standards required to put on a show. Bums on seats philosophy for a theatre governs that a local society must be able to give of its best, to guarantee sponsorship for shows and that the local theatre will not lose money in the opening of its doors to a production.
Amateurs who can not engage at this level may well find themselves members of small village hall groups, youth theatre groups and part of an extensive network of community based groups. This is probably the concept most people have of amateur shows and its members.
—-
Professional artists with professional standards who are likened to being semi professional, are likely to meet in there journeys through life all manner of other professionals who can help them achieve there goals. This does not mean they have an automatic entry into the world of the contracted paid professional, but it is obviously that this is the ultimate aim or objective. The deserving should progress ahead.
Sadly the deserving don’t always progress ahead, as the music industry is a completely private one and there is no guarantee you will get any return on your investment. I am speaking here of the investment a professional standard person makes in there career. The costs of which can be enormous. Say a modest estimate of 2 or 3 thousand pounds a year. In the LEONA LEWIS case her parents were affluent and had invested 80k, and whilst I personally believe that this could have all been done for a lot less. Like her or loathe her, LEONA LEWIS was the worthwhile winner of last years X factor competition.
