X Factor: Songs For Saturday 21st October
A few of the contestants song choices were revealed tonight on X Factor: The Aftermath.
As you know this week will follow a Rod Stewart Theme, and the Rod songs chosen are:
Leona Lewis: The First Cut Is The Deepest
The MacDonald Brothers: We Are Sailing
Ben Mills: Stay With Me
4Sure: You’re In My Heart
What do you think of this weeks songs?

although it was number one I am sailing always sounds like an anthology for people who are drunk and miserable. Yuk Handbags and gladrags would have been better (its a tune)
Stay with me : You gotto sound a bit dirty to sing this one, or you will seem to be begging.
First cut is the the deepest is great if you sing with angst.
Your in my heart ( uggh) not sure this choice is going to work unless they change the arrangement.maggie may would have been better or you wear it well.
Good luck Rod has a sexy masculine voice that sounds, so it always works for him. His songs are quite hard to sing well.
I am sailing is the weakest, sounds like a group of people who have lost a footie match.

Dionne will be singing ‘ Tonights the Night’. I hope it brings her more luck than her last song and she doesnt end up in the bottom 2 again.

Awww! I just had an idea! What about a DEATH METAL themed X Factor? An evening of gutteral growling and unintelligible lyrics by classic acts like Slayer, Cannibal Corpse and other murderously-named bands!

I knew the MacDonalds would get stuck with SAILING, Sharon will hammer them for it as she has her nasty side out for them this year,I think the theme week is all wrong, All anyones gonna do is compare with ROD SREWART, Its rediculous, I think its unfair really. AT least Rod will get the chance to plug a single or album track.I hope ETON ROAD have a good song but cant think what it may be. NO the themed weeks plan is wrong.ROD Newcastle

Eton road are singing ‘ This Old Heart of Mine’. Hopefully well! Bit more up tempo than ‘My Girl’ but think they should do well.

Anthony will deliver on ‘THIS OLE HEART OF MINE’ ably supported by his other lads in ETON ROAD, They work great as a group and although I dont care for the somg it is ONE that ROD STEWART murdered when he covered this ISLEY BROTHERS classic. Rod made it boring compared to their way so I hope the lads get to do it more up tempo.I still think the themed week idea is daft and this one in particular where it centres round only 1 singer. ROD STEWART also murdered ‘FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST’ compared to PP ARNOLDS hit with it, Leona will not do the song justice either. Eton Road should shine again,Anthony has a fantastic voice,Im dying to buy their records NOW. Rod, Newcastle

As an avid Rod Stewart fan; I hope these people don’t ruin the songs. I’m glad Eton Road are singing ‘This Old Heart Of Mine’ I actually think they’ll do a good job. I would have preferred Ashley to be singing ‘Tonight’s the Night’ as its a sexy song, and he’s quite sexy. I think it’s unfair to say Rod ruined the Isley Brothers classic, when Ronald Isley was singing the song with him. Hmm. Sailing is a boring, predictable song and will not do the McDonald Brothers any favours at all. I think they also could have given Ben a better song than ‘Stay With Me’. Is anybody singing Baby Jane? You Wear It Well? Rhythm of My Heart? Downtown train? What am I gonna do (Eton Road would have done amazing on this)? Would have LOVED to hear Unconventionals sing ‘You’re In My Heart’ but obviously, the great British public did not agree. Oh well, here’s to the prosperity of them not destroying Rods songs.

Actually Kylie I listened again to ROD STEWART singin ‘this ole heart of mine’ and I take your point, it sounded great,I did him an injustice there, I prefer it uptempo though and ETON ROAD did a great job on it.But you were right I was unfair to ROD there. I do like him and like you I thought they could have chosen many os his better songs and landing RAY with …’WONDERFUL WORLD’, originally sang by LOUIS ARMSTRONG when he was in his 60s,for goodness sake SIMON is mentoring Ray badly and relying on his earlier appeal from Brookside to win him through, with his last 2 songs and the performances of them anyone else would have been out and SIMON would have described them as boring hotel/cabaret singers. It’ll be worse this week, a TONY BENNETT week, for crying out loud,Rod.Newcastle
