Mel C – real name Melanie Chisholm – has admitted that she is a big fan of girl group Little Mix.
The former Spice Girls star first met the band, when she was backstage at The X Factor last year and during an interview on Daybreak this morning, admitted that she thinks the girls are great role models for today’s youth.
After rubbishing rumours that her own group would be reforming for The Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, or for The Olympics, Mel went on to praise the reality TV stars, saying:
They [Little Mix] are absolutely adorable and I love them and what I love about these girls is that they have got fa ntastic voices, they are really talented but they look like young girls.
They’re not über sexy, über glam, they are really good, positive role models for young girls, which we don’t have that many of. I’m really pleased on that front.
Chisholm confessed that Little Mix remind her of herself, Mel B, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham in their younger days. She added:
They remind me of the Spice Girls, because they’re really young and fun and I think that’s what pop music should be about. It’s kind of got a bit too serious and a bit too sexy at times.
Having been there, done the whole tour, promo, performance thing, Mel also advised the girls to not get bogged down in the pressure of it all, but told them to simply enjoy their time in the spotlight, because as she knows only too well ‘it doesn’t last.’
My advice to them would be enjoy it, enjoy every minute because it doesn’t last forever and when you are in the middle of it you don’t think of the future. You get so busy and weighed down with the pressure. Just enjoy it, because it’s a fairytale, it’s a dream come true for so many young girls.
Little Mix are currently living it up in Barbados, so may have missed the interview. They will be home soon and will embark on the nationwide X Factor tour later this month.
