X Factor: Tony Bennett Furious With Talent Shows For Exploiting Artists.

After seeing Tony Bennett on the UK’s X Factor and hearing that he will also be appearing on the next series of American Idol, you would be forgiven for thinking that he is a huge fan of these genre of talent shows.

Tony however has spoken out this week against such shows and the people who run them (presumably Simon Cowell).

Bennett reveals he’s “disturbed” at the trials contestants face when the cameras stop rolling. He says:

“These amateur shows that they have internationally right now… make them (contestants) go right to the top and then there is no place for them to break in and learn their craft.

“I am a little disturbed over that, that the businessmen are making a fortune but, after the first record, they drop the artist and go with the next.

“It is not fair because the artists all have such good potential. They all have the good possibility of really becoming good performers if they just had the place that they could break in and learn how to do it properly.”

That’s kinda sad that Bennett doesn’t like these talent shows, and yet he’s not above exploiting them to promote his duets album. He already appeared on “Canadian Idol” a few months ago, so “American Idol” will be his third trip to the buffet table.

EXACTLY kevin,AND I DONT SEE WHY WE NEED CELEBRITY GUESTS ON TALENT SHOWS ANYWAY,esp one like the Xfactor which has rumn for 3 years now, they COULD bring back previous finalists who have achieved anything such as G4, JOURNEY SOUTH, SHAYNE,BRENDA etc and let them demonstrate what can be there after X factor often without even winning the show.ROD,NEWCASTLE.

Tony Bennett has years of experience and talent. He has not said that he does not like the shows, merely that the performers (with great potential) as he puts it are not given the opportunity of fully learning their trade. Instant success like instant gratification may not be the best. He fears for the artists who he feels are being exploited by the likes of Simon Cowell who are most likely to drop them if success is not followed by success. We should be grateful he has spoken out. The best advice given by any of these guests was by Tony Bennett to the eventual UK winner when he said…”…keep is simple.” She better remember that her undoubted star quality may not shine so bright or as long. Listen to a master when he speaks!!!

  4. Dear Simon: Can We Stop The Sucking Up Now? - Unreality TV says:

[...] Talent wise, things on X Factor improved tonight, but watching these people being forced to suck up to celebrities isn’t nice. The best from last year was watching them all pretending to know who Tony Bennett was. [...]
