X Factor USA: Steve Jones claims ‘angel’ Cheryl Cole’s exit was nothing to do with her accent
Steve Jones has denied reports that Cheryl Cole was fired from the X Factor USA because of her thick Geordie accent.
The Welsh TV host will front the new series of the TV talent show and speaking about the announcement that was made in May, revealing that the former Girls Aloud star was being replaced on the judging panel by his supposed co-host Nicole Scherzinger, Jones claimed that he was disappointed by the news.
The hunky star told The Sun that the decision was definitely not made because of Cheryl’s dialect, saying:
“I spoke to her and said I was disappointed I wasn’t going to spend a lot more time with her because she’s a cool girl. The powers that be know exactly what happened. I’m my own little island backstage.
“But the only thing I will say is it was nothing to do with the accent. I watched her judge about 140 contestants and only twice did someone say, ‘Excuse me?’
“If anything the people backstage were just looking in the monitors and saying, ‘Oh my god it’s an angel. She’s beautiful’. Because she is, of course.”
Speaking about how it feels to have moved from local Welsh TV shows, to T4, to a huge American presenting career, Steve admitted that the chance Simon Cowell has given him is beyong his ‘wildest dreams,’ but he won’t be giving it up anytime soon!
He added:
He revealed: “I never thought I would get this far. I never thought I’d be a TV presenter – it was just something I stumbled into.
“It’s as if somebody said to me, ‘How do you want everything you ever wanted?’ I’ve gone, ‘That would be nice.’ And they’ve gone, ‘Here it is.’ That’s how it feels.
“I have moments I stop and have a little smile to myself and it all feels like a dream.”

I wish Cheryl Cole would go away. Tulisa is the new judge now on UK version and Nicole is the new judge on USA version. End of. Cheryl appears to be some kind of stalker, can’t she get in into her thick head that she was sacked because she has no personality or talent. Beauty yes but so what? Someone should get her a modelling contract. Is she going to hover outside Fox Studios or something? People get sacked all the time and not many have millions in the bank to play with. I can’t wait to see both X Factor versions without Cheryl Cole. And her die hard fans should stop being nasty to Nicole and Tulisa or comparing them to Cheryl Cole. Fox bosses or Simon or both were CORRECT to get rid of her. I like Cheryl but with all her good looks, she seems unable to function without someone holding her hand, she is pushing the 30 yrs mark and still acts like a teenager, unable to make decisions in her own life and her problems show through her false smiles. She should grow up and stop enticing her fans to hate on Nicole and Tulisa. Why should they lose their ‘excitement’ from their new jobs because of people hating on them because of Cheryl. I just wish people would give it a break now. And I hope she does not participate on UK version, what’s the point of that?
