Steve Jones has admitted that he has been impressed by the amount of weird and wonderful auditionees on this year’s new American X Factor series.

The hunky Welsh star will present the new Fox show and speaking about tryouts held by judges – Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell – up and down the vast country, he revealed that for him one particular interesting singer stood out from all the rest.

Jones confessed that the hopeful had a real ‘gkint in his eye’ before he took to the stage to perform, but during his song, he dropped his trousers and modelled a skimpy thong for the panel.

Steve laughed:

“I was interviewing one guy before he went on and he had a glint in his eye. Then he goes out there on the stage and whips his trousers off to reveal a tiny little tie-dye G-string. Paula gagged and had to leave the arena because she was almost sick, Simon’s jaw hit the floor, everyone was screaming.

“I spoke to Simon backstage after and asked him what he thought. He said it was probably his favourite audition ever – and I agreed. But he didn’t get through – they said No and sent him packing to get help!”

The best piece of news in Steve’s revelation for us wasn’t about the quirky audition, but the fact that Simon refused to let the mad man through to the next round. Maybe, we will be spared the horror from acts like Wagner and Jedward on the American version of the TV talent show after all!
