The Funeral singers

The auditions this week kick off in Belfast, and first in to audition are 44 year old twins Michelle and Julie Croghan, who are funeral singers! And their graveside singing has found them some unexpected fans, “the undertakers have been pushing us to come and audition. Everyone whose funerals we have sung at, have said that we’ve made their day…!” The twins are hoping they can swap the crematorium for the auditorium and become the first twins in the X Factor finals.

It doesn’t start off well when Dannii mistakes the girls for guys! And when the twins go on to explain that they sing at gravesides, all four Judges look quite taken aback with Louis asking, “What is the favourite funeral song?”, and the answer is the song the twins are going to perform, In The Arms of The Angels.

After their performance Simon looks slightly shocked, “I’ve got to be honest girls, I’d want to throw myself in the coffin after that”. With Sharon adding, “When you sing you have that mortuary look on your face, you sing nicely together but it’s so depressing”. “I agree” says Simon, “So depressing, can I be honest the whole thing is insane, the wigs the white faces, the gloomy funeral tunes, you are like a couple of corpses”. “They aren’t wigs, that’s our real hair” shout back the twins. But Sharon seems quite interested, “Do you do advanced bookings? I’d love to book you for my funeral, at least I’d know what I’ll get!” and Simon offers to pay for it! But despite getting a booking will the pair make it through to Bootcamp?
