This weeks X Factor première features some truly awful acts but one singer who actually manages to impress the judges is Joseph or Joe McElderry from South Shields.

Joe auditioned in Manchester earlier this summer and from the moment he started speaking, he had a fan in Cheryl Cole, who seemed thrilled to speak to someone from her home town.

Joe chose the classic Luther Vandross tearjerker, Dance With My Father for his audition piece. He really played a blinder and by the end of his performance, half of the audience were welling up.

Dannii said that Joe had a ‘great performance, great voice and great look.’ Louis thought he had the elusive ‘likeability factor.’ Cheryl was ‘proud’ of him for representing their city so well and Simon called his vocal performance ‘astonishing’, adding “we may have found a Popstar.”
