X Factor: Were Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue hypocritical when they told Kandy Rain to tone it down? *Pictures*

kandy-rain

On last night’s X Factor the judges seemed very unconcerned with how the acts sang, and more bothered by how they looked or which gender they fancied.

After Kandy Rain gave their performance of ‘Addicted To Love’, Dannii Minogue failed to comment on their singing and instead blasted their outfits. She stated:

“Reign it in. The stories came out that you used to be pole dancers and all of that and you want us to listen to you as singers.”

Cheryl then waded into the debate saying:

“I totally agree. If I was your mentor I would have bought you out all demure. You keep saying you want to keep the past behind you but you come out all dressed a bit proactively and that’s the image you give off.”

Simon made the point that both Dannii and Cheryl have appeared half naked before as part of their music careers and we have the pictures to prove it.

Check out these shots below and let us know if you think Dannii and Cheryl had the right to criticise Kandy Rain.

    Good Job Lisa!!! :D :D:D

No, not hypocritical at all. Kandy Rain have been saying they didn’t want people to look at them as ‘ex-strippers’ but a group of singers and that they also wanted to leave the past in the past, complaining about newspaper coverage of their previous careers over the past week or so. They then turn up on the first live show looking like they were about to do a shift at a seedy strip/lap dancing club. I think Kandy Rain are the hypocrites, actually. Dannii and Cheryl both made a very good point.

I 100% agree with Cheryl and Danni. I though kandy rain looked ridiculous as they they came out yesterday. They keep saying they want to just show off their singing, instead of them once being pole dancers. So it was completly stupid to come out looking like pole dancers. Once they have proved themselves i see no problem of them dressing like that, but not now!

  4. Genine louise says:

I think Dannii and Cheryl were right in what they said as kandy rain did wanna get away from the image of being stripper singers, yet they went out on stage looking like strippers. As for Dannii and cheryl appearing half naked, have they ever been slated in the press as being strippers….NO so they had nothing to prove but Kandy Rain by their own words said they wanted to not be looked at in that way…. not a good way to go about it girls!!!!!!!!

  5. sophie p says:

i think they were right to say that because kandy rain r not helping themselves by dressing so proactively when they keep banging on about how the past is the past…also as i think cheryl said..they dressed like hat once they had made it and kandy rain havent nearly made it yet…its only week one! x

  6. loana says:

OMG how could you compare Girls Aloud & them.. girls aloud are successful girl band in this country.. these girls mentioned that they want to get away from the past but still wearing this hidious clothes..they should wear properly & concentrate only their singing..Cheryl is right

  7. Sinéad. says:

I agree, it wasn’t hypocritical at all. The girls from Kandy Rain have stated themselves that they want to get away form the “stripper” image. The clothes that they wore last night did not convey an image that was different to what would be expected of strippers. Cheryl and Dannii have every right to say what they did to Kandy Rain. They did not mean to offend them they simply wanted to help them on their progress in the show.

I dont think they were being hypocritical. Kandy rain have said they want to leave their pasts behind yet they dress like strippers/lap dancers. I don’t think people should be having a strop because Danni and Cheryl said what was on their minds, and with those outfits you couldn’t concentrate on their voices and they were not good at all. To compare them to Cheryl and Danni would be like to compare Queen to Westlife. Two different things. Cheryl and Danni dress that way because they have a record deal and they are not fighting for a place in the final. However, if Kandy Rain choose to keep dressing that way then i bet you they will be out sooner than they would of if they didn’t dress that way. It’s just the way it is. We will soon see whether this is true.

I have no idea why it is deemed OK to dress like a stripper if you are Dannii Minogue or Cheryl Cole but not otherwise, but obviously a lot of women think this. I don’t see what ‘proving’ yourself has got to do with it – I don’t think many men agree with this viewpoint, but unfortunately for Kandy Rain they tend not to vote on the x-factor (as is witnessed by the endless stream of talentless but ‘fit’ young men who do well in this comptetition).

Madonna and Jordan are good examples, seen by a lot of women as some sort of feminist icons, but actually far more vulgar and crude than Kandy Rain. I think what Dannii and Cheryl are really getting at is that a lot of women share this perverse perspective, and they will vote on that basis. Ultimately Dannii and Cheryl are right, not morally (if they were making a moral point it would be totally hypocritical), but in the sense that Kandy Rain being voted out means it was bad tactics. I suspect Kandy Rain will have the last laugh – whilst men will not pay to keep them in the cometition, they will pay to see a highly sexually charged act, such as I suspect they will put on when not on family TV.

Typical of all the girls comments the same as it was typical and hypocritical of Danni and Cheryl who as Simon said that they have both appeared half dressed or near nude during their music careers. Talk about the kettle calling the pot black when Cheryl and Danni said they appeared to be too provocative when they have done the same in their videos.

  11. kym says:

i total agree with what has been said. They wanted people to give them a chance and they got one and still portraied them selves the same. As for louis and simon saying that girls wouldn like then because of how they dress and because of there past, well im sorry but plenty of us love and support the pussy act dolls, thats just the same, difference being they were an established band befor, and never made a big deal out of their past…. Glad i got that off my chest lol

  12. dean says:

Well Kym you say the same as Cheryl, word for word do you not have your own opinion. Just because they were pole dancers before all the girls dislike as they dislike that profession. On the night their version of Tainted Love was much better than was much better than Rachel’s version of the Let me entertain you.

  13. Amelia says:

Yes but Dean, when Dannii and Cheryl dressed like that they were an established band and singer and they weren’t trying to get away from a stripper image!

  14. KHOUSTELLO says:

Someone remind me if the Danni one is related to the “lucky, lucky” Kylie. If she isnt how did she get her job -in other words wheres the talent!By the way, see how quick youve forgotten SuBo!!!

  15. kym says:

dean it may be the same thats because i have the same oppinion. all im saying is that plenty of girls love the pussy cat dolls, and thats the same so they can blame everything on being strippers. if you have a good voice there is no need to dress like that to win the talent competition…. you didnt see lucy dress like that.. and she got through because she has fantastic vochals. some one has to go first, and it maybe it shouldnt have been them, but it was down to public wotes so obviously a lot of people share the opinions of the judges.

  16. kym says:

ps dean lol i didnt mean to offend u everyone has their favorite acts. they were good as a group and talented, i just think that they didnt need to dress like that and maybe if they didnt people wouldnt have sided with the judges xx

  17. mary says:

Well, I am a woman and I say that it was hypocritical of Cheryl and Danii – two talentless women, who by some freak chance got a job as x-factor judges – to say that Kandy Rain was dressed provocatively. They looked great. I thought they looked quite tame actually, as I am sure that there has been more scantily-clad acts on the show. What’s wrong with pole dancing? So many women admire those who do it, and men love it, so where is the problem with that? Kandy Rain can sing and they are talented. They just needed guidance and encouragement and a break!

  18. Katie says:

nah they was both right.. its like me sayin i used to be a drug addict but dont wanna be looked at as 1 nomore.. then turn up on stage off my head. i thought the same as danni n cheryl when i saw how kandy rain dressed. if your dressing like that then its taken attention away from your singing, so in the end.. nobody really cared if they were good singers.. they just saw them as strippers.

  19. Colin says:

It is hypocritical because Cheryl and Dannii can barely sing, and both of them (and Girls Aloud, and Kylie, who also can’t sing) have relied very heavily on dressing half naked in order to get where they are today. Obviously, from a tactical pov they were right, in that KR got voted out, so we will never know if they can sing. Almost every girl band seems to dress like that these days, if it wasn’t for the fact that people have an attitude about KR’s previous careers it wouldn’t be an issue – I suspect because of this they would have lost even if they dressed like Susan Boyle.

  20. gareth evans 21 says:

have any of you thought that despite the fact they are trying to get away from the stripper image its what they know and therfore feel comfortable in to sing in front of millions of people?
