X Factor wins ratings battle

X Factor has won the first Saturday night ratings war of 2009, by over two millions viewers.

ITV’s X Factor had an audience of 10 million while 7.7 million watched the BBC’s dance show as it drew to a close last night.

The BBC are maintaining a brave face, with a spokesman insisting that the figures are “very pleasing”.

He added “there is something for everyone to enjoy on Saturday night”.

But why are people preferring to tune into the singing show than the dancing one? Could it be the recession hit cast of nobodies on Strictly, or perhaps the new fourth judge who smiles but offers no real critique of the performances. We’d love to hear your opinions below.
