X Factor’s Gary Barlow and Superstar’s Andrew Lloyd Webber will co-write a song for Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations

Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber have announced that they will be joining forces, for the upcoming Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

X Factor judge Barlow is putting together a huge concert for the event, which will boast an incredibly star studded lineup when it takes place later this year and as part of the celebrations, he will perform a song that he and Lloyd Webber are writing together.

As a means of gathering inspiration for the track, Barlow will travel around the Commonwealth, in order to gauge what the British monarch means to normal people. He will also be making a BBC documentary about the trip, during which the dad of three will take time to learn as much as he can about the different cultural music styles and traditions.

He announced on Twitter today:

I’ll be starting my journey around the Commonwealth in 10days.Will be tweeting every bit of the way! #exciting

He also posted the picture below of himself and Andrew, at the BBC Radio Two studios this morning, where they were announcing their big news on the Chris Evans Show.

Gary included the caption:

“The Lord and me.”

In a statement, Andrew admitted that he is honoured to be working with the Take That star and said:

“It is a huge honour to be involved in this historic occasion and I am looking forward very much to working with Gary.”

He told Evans:

“We both realised that there was a possibility that we would both be writing a song for the Jubilee to celebrate the Queen. I called Gary and said: ‘Are you doing it because someone’s talked to me about it?’

“And we thought it best to say we might join forces.”

It’s going to be a busy few months for both men, as following on from their Jubilee duties, both are about to begin another reality TV stint.

Gary is reported to have signed up for a second series of The X Factor, though this year he may have the pleasure of sitting alongside Simon Cowell as the show boss today confessed that he is keen to return to the ITV show.

Andrew on the other hand will launch his search for a star to take on the lead role in a rock arena tour of his musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’ He will search for the lucky singer via a talent show, set to air on ITV this summer.

The programme will be Executive Produced for the BBC by Mirella Breda, and Executive Produced & Directed by Ben Winston and Produced by Mark Jones for Fulwell 73.
