Jahmene Douglas has joked that releasing an album full of covers could be either ‘brave or stupid’ and he’s not sure which yet.
The X Factor runner up made quite a name for himself when he appeared on the ITV show and won over a large fanbase with his dulcet soul tones. He lost out in the final to pal James Arthur but was soon snapped up by RCA and next month his first record will hit the shelves.
In a new interview with Digital Spy Jahmene revealed that his new album – titled ‘Love Never Fails’ – does cause him some concerns because he has put his own spin on other artist’s songs and not included any original material.
Douglas is a little scared that people won’t like his efforts and confessed:
“This is the part that scares me – it’s all covers. That said, I’m from X Factor and I’m lucky just to be making an album. This is me building my foundations with what I can do in the music industry. My second album will be more my stuff because I do write a lot of stuff.”
The singer added: “It’s either brave or stupid, we’ll never know! Hopefully people will embrace it and realise I’m just starting out. If they give me a chance and I’ll be able to make a second album. I’ve been trying to refer to it as gospel interpretations rather than covers. It’s me trying to relay the message of a song to make people listen to the lyrics more – hopefully.”
Jahmene has promised his fans that there are some exciting surprises included on the album and revealed that he can’t wait to reveal them all.
“Thank You ALL for supporting me with my new album.I have a few surprises too. 😛 Can’t wait for you all to know.”
His cover of David Guetta’s Titanium is to be the lead single from the album and it will be a charity venture, with Jahmene revealing:
“I’m happy to finally announce that I’m donating all of my profits from single “Titanium” to @womensaid <3″
The Swindon singer also revealed that there will be a duet with his former mentor Nicole Scherzinger and added:
“Can’t wait for you all to hear The duet with Nicole <3”
‘Love Never Fails’ will hit the shelves and be available for download on July 22.
