X Factor’s Shayne Ward Scoops Christmas Number One!

Santa certainly brought Shayne Ward what he wanted this christmas, a record breaking single that made it to Christmas number one.

Before the track even reached the number one spot, it was already being hailed as the fastest selling single of the year and the most downloaded UK track EVER! All this in just 4 days, as Shaynes single was released 2 days later than the other contenders for the spot.

Shayne, 21, said: “I am so thrilled to top the charts at Christmas. Thank you to everyone who bought That’s My Goal and all the thousands of people who voted for me on The X Factor.”

Shayne, who is celebrating Christmas with his family in Manchester, added: “You have made my dream come true - I am still in shock. I am completely overwhelmed.”

Gennaro Castaldo, of HMW, said: “That’s My Goal is the fastestselling Christmas number one in recorded chart history. It has flown off the shelves this week.”

There may be more to come for the X Factor winner as his single is already the third biggest-selling ever. Top is Sir Elton John’s 1997 reworking of Candle in the Wind - the tribute to Princess Diana which he sang at her funeral in August 1997. It sold more than 600,000 on its first day, and 4.8million overall in Britain.

Second is Pop Idol winner Will Young’s Evergreen. The February 2002 offering sold 1.1million copies in its first week - 403,027 on its first day.

Another few weeks of these sorts of sales figures and Shayne may just make his way to the top of the pile!
