We loved Casey James on last night’s American Idol, mostly for his rocking guitar playing than for his vocals, hut hey he certainly had style! We love his look, love his voice, but he could have ripped it just a little harder and the guitar did detract from his vocals somewhat.
Unfortunately some of the judges didn’t love his performance of “I Don’t Wanna Be” by Gavin Degraw as much as us. Randy Jackson loved him “channelling Hendrix through Texas”. He branded his guitar playing as “hot.”
Ellen loved the song choice and said that Casey “sounded great”. However she added that there is a “stiffness” on stage and advised Casey to perform more.
Kara DioGuardi thought that Casey “took two steps backward” this week. She explained that everything that was distinct about him went away, and he didn’t take the song to another level.
Simon Cowell agreed with Kara and said that Casey “turned into somebody you will see in any bar across America” and he “doesn’t have the grit” in his voice to make it authentic.
