Outgoing American Idol contestant Michael Lynche has reflected on missing his daughter’s birth, while he continued in Hollywood week on the show
The singer’s first daughter ‘Laila’ was born as he waited to hear whether or not he had made it through to the live rounds of Idol.
Speaking to reporters after his elimination from the singing show, Big Mike said:
“I don’t think you can ever say anything is worth missing the birth of your child, and only time will let those wounds heal.”
“But I think that it definitely gives my family a good chance in the future and gives my daughter a better chance that I did it, took that sacrifice. For me personally, of course I didn’t want to miss it, and of course I would choose it over. But it wasn’t a choice, this is what I needed to do for the family at this time.”
Speaking about his wife joining him on stage when he got the bad news on Wednesday night, Michael added:
“It meant a lot because it really started out with them in Hollywood Week. For me, that was when this whole experience got real. It wasn’t about hoping you could do well anymore, I had to do well. Because of the sacrifices I was making at that time, it was very important for me to do well. They’d be there for me if I was working at Home Depot or Domino’s Pizza, my wife just always supports me, no matter what. It’s nice that I get to be the family man, and I’m not anybody else but that. That is what I am first. It was nice that that was my story and that people really saw that, and to have my wife there really helps my heart out in a tough moment.”
