Celebrity Big Brother 2013: Sophie Anderton reveals “It was a big risk to sign up for this” but as she blew £10mn, she may need the cash!

It’s no secret that Celebrity Big Brother housemate Sophie Anderton has battled with drug addiction in the past, and of course, recreational drugs are not a cheap hobby…

According to Sophie, she blew her fortune of £10million during the years that she was hooked on drugs and partying, and has subsequently had several attempts at restocking her bank account, including a stint in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity.

However, she’s been somewhat conspicuous by her absence in the public eye for the last few years, which is something she apparently was happy about, but perhaps financial pressures forced her hand when deciding to sign up for this year’s CBB.

Speaking to the Star, she explained, “It was a big risk to sign up for [Celebrity Big Brother] because for the past three years, I’ve been happy.

“I like being anonymous, it’s great.”

Of her wilder times – Sophie has apparently been ‘clean’ since 2009 – she remarked, “I blew £10million.

“That’s something I deeply regret.”

She added, “Rehab cost me about £55,000 over the years, and another £20,000 on therapy. But none of that worked.”

Sophie continued, “Between 17 and 32 I was high, apart from a two-year clean period.

“I’d have a line of coke before I had coffee in the morning. My lowest point was when I relapsed in 2006.

“And when you relapse, you go back 20 times as hard. It was the darkest time…

“It was horrible, and I think I knew that was it for me.

“I thought ‘I’ve relapsed, now I might as well destroy my entire life’.”

Well thank goodness she managed to bring things around. I really like Sophie – do you?

I like that she’s so candid about her previous struggles. It can’t be easy confessing all of that can it?

Here’s a look at her in the house…

Lynn is an editor and writer here at Unreality TV and is a trained psychotherapist and the author of two books. She's addicted to soaps, period drama and reality TV shows such as X Factor, Big Brother, BGT and I'm A Celeb.

Most of this years CBB housemates seem to be recovering from some problem or another, It’s like one big therapy session. I wish they could do a few tasks that would cheer them up, it’s starting to make ME depressed. Maybe CBB should have been on before the ‘civilian’ version because it’s a bit of an anti climax, there was never a dull moment in the Dexter and Gina show.
