Celebrity Big Brother 2014

It’s January, which can only mean one thing – the return of Celebrity Big Brother and last night, the reality TV show returned with a bang as over three million viewers tuned in.

12 z-listers exited that now, infamous eye and entered the Celebrity Big Brother house for a 3 week thrill last night, but we’ve been promised that it’s not always going to be a thrill they’ll like.

In total, 3.4 million viewers (including Channel 5+1) tuned in to see the launch of Celebrity Big Brother 2014 as the likes of Lee Ryan, Sam Faiers, Ollie Locke and Luisa Zissman were bundled into the compound at Elstree.

The show, which aired between 9 – 11pm on Channel 5 last night peaked with a WHOPPING 4.17 million viewers at 10pm just as Casey Batchelor was preparing to enter the house.

A peak of 4.17 million viewers is an amazing start for Channel 5 and Celebrity Big Brother, but we will, unfortunately, see a bit of a downfall on that over the coming days.

Despite performing exceptionally well on launch night, the show was down by 140,000 viewers based on figures from Celebrity Big Brother 11 last January. The same launch night one year ago averaged a total of 3.54 million viewers, so the show isn’t down drastically.

However, as online fansite BBSpy has pointed out, there has been a huge lack of promotion for the current series of Celebrity Big Brother. The TV advert has been used non-stop on Channel 5, airing most ad breaks but, channel 5 has not advertised outside of its TV channels and its sister newspapers and magazines, including The Daily Star, OK! And new! magazine. So, the promotion has been slightly underwhelming this year with Emma Willis not doing much promo either.

Some viewers have also added that the line-up of celebrities this year is also underwhelming which may have an effect on the ratings going forward.

One fan tweeted: “Ok this is an awful lineup. I either don’t know or don’t care about any of these people”.

Another Twitter member added: “Just looked at the #CBB line-up – Jesus Christ it’s one of the worst ever. Why don’t they just put that show down already”.

What do you make of the line-up this year and most importantly, what do you think of last night’s viewing figures?

I think the line ups good! Ive heard of everyone but the models, and i think people saying the line up is underwhelming need to give them a chance before hey can judge. The ratings are good, as we have to remember secrets and lies launched the lowest ratings but had the highest overall average for a regular channel 5 big brother. Hoping that cbb can maintain the figures, as the line-u, although disappointing in places, is very promising.
