Gareth Gates and Brianne Delcourt really got into the spirit of things for this week’s Dancing On Ice performance.
The former pop idol star won last week’s duel challenge and so escaped elimination, but he’s one of the favourites to leave tonight, so he threw his all into the 80s theme in a bid to win votes.
The show took fans back to the 80s, to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of Torvill and Dean’s Olympic win and to mark the occasion Gareth donned a George Michael style wig and an all white costume. Of course he skated to Wham’s Freedom….what else!
Before the show he tweeted:
“Ok who’s ready for @dancingonice ?? My wigs on and me and @BrianneTV look like WHAM! Woo!!! X”
The star marked another big occasion today and added:
“It’s just been brought to my attention that it was 12 years today since the final if pop idol… My goodness! Where has the time gone?!”
On tonight’s show Gareth admitted:
“I am the only celeb left that wasn’t a champion. I am the underdog. It makes me want to work harder. All of them inspire me to become better.”
“The pressure is really on this week. It’s either I leave or a former champion leaves and I really do not want to leave.”
The routine was certainly better than we’re used to and the lifts were steady and secure. He’s no Ray Quinn, but tonight we think Gareth did himself proud.
ASHLEY ROBERTS: Gareth you are the underdog but you keep coming back and having fun. You Whammed it out!
KAREN BARBER: That was your best performance so far, the champions are pushing you and we know we have to work on the basics.
JASON GARDINER: I heard Wham but I saw Bucks Fizz. This was your best performance to date. I applaud you for doing the more complicated lifts and clearly you do naff very well mate
NICKY SLATER: I think it’s great fun and I love the way you work together as a couple but it’s slow over the ice. Keep going because the fun shines out of the performance.
