Ray Quinn was the most composed star taking to the rink when Dancing On Ice began this evening.
The actor has been bookies’ favourite to win for weeks and as the best skater out of all the celebrities, the first solo routine of the year posed least problems for the former Brookside star.
However first he had to do his couple skate and after winning such high praise from the judges’ last week and achieving his first 40 of the series, he was on a bit of a high.
That was until he headed into rehearsals, and discovered that Torvill and Dean had some incredibly difficult moves up their sleeves. Jayne said:
“This week we found some things Ray couldn’t do and it was enlightening for us.”
Ray later admitted:
“I have got to push myself to the next level. I tried tricks I haven’t tried before and it is challenging me.”
When he and Maria took to the ice, their routine was jam packed with the most amazing spins and lifts and tricks. We thought we saw a little wobble at one point, but it was all moving so fast, it was hard to tell.
The judges clearly loved the routine too and three out of four scored him a perfect 10, which Jason Gardiner deducted half a point with a 9.5.
Ashley Roberts: Ray I could watch you all night long honey. It’s just so good and delicious.
Karen Barber: There were little things wrong but there was lots of things right. You are a very talented guy, whether you are dancing or skating.
Robin Cousins: It was so difficult and so pushed through. It loved at that moment and it was wonderful.
Jason Gardiner: It’s a brilliant score. I think Ray will agree with me, that wasn’t perfect. To get tens you need to have it perfect. There were slight points were you weren’t together like you two normally are.
