Fans of Dancing On Ice star Beth Tweddle may be aware that the Olympic gymnast has had to endure endless amounts of nasty abuse on Twitter, however, in an interview with the Daily Star Sunday, Beth’s vowed not to let the internet trolls affect her.
She said, “Not everyone is going to like everyone, so there will always be negative comments.
“If you start reading them they can obviously really upset you, so I try to avoid them.
“I try to remember that for every nasty comment there are 20 messages of support…
“I get tweets saying that children have taken up gymnastics and ice skating because of me so I try and concentrate on those.”
However, Beth – whose former boyfriend Steve Cryer accused her of dumping him via a text message recently – added, “I don’t go searching for ¬negative comments but I do hear about them.
“You have to be strong-willed and try to ignore them.
“I have amazing friends and family who love and support me for being who I am.
“People that write things on Twitter obviously don’t know me as a person.
“If you are in the limelight people think they have the right to talk about you – whether it’s what you look like or what you are wearing.
“You just have to be strong enough to look past it and not let it get you down. It hasn’t affected my skating at all.”
And finally, Beth said, “I’d love to win but I think Matt (Lapinskas) is the one the rest of us need to chase.
“Because Louis has done so well everyone was tweeting saying ¬gymnastics needs to do the double with Strictly and Dancing On Ice.”
Dancing On Ice of course continues tonight, but for now, here’s a reminder of Beth’s performance last week…
