Dancing On Ice star Keith Chegwin has told Metro’s Guilty Pleasures section that he’s “working twice as hard as anyone else on Dancing On Ice!”

Keith, who has of course overcome a number of obstacles to take part in the show, including a rib injury – more on that in a moment – added, “Each week we’ve not been getting the votes from the public…

“And we’ve been skating twice as much as the other people.”

Of his and his pro-skate partner Olga Sharutenko’s hectic rehearsal schedule, Keith said, “Each week we’ve had to do choreography for our main number and we’ve had to develop choreography for the second number just in case we wind up in the bottom two again…

“While we’re doing two routines a week, they’re only doing one.”

However, he added, “I’m absolutely loving it. I couldn’t give a damn whether I win or lose I just want to have a great time.”

But back now to that rib injury, and this morning, the Mirror reports that last night, Keith alarmed everyone around him when he “battled to breathe” during rehearsals.

A show source said, “Keith came in for training and was extremely breathless.

“The doctor gave him the once-over and immediately decided to send him away.

“She said if he tried to carry on with practice there would be no way that he’d be able to compete.

“He missed an entire day’s training.”

And of course, he’s not the only one in the wars as Joe Pasquale has shingles and Gareth Thomas has an infected foot!

Of the assorted ailments that are dogging the contestants, judge Karen Barber said, “It really is like the walking wounded at Dancing on Ice.

“There are so many knocks, bumps and illnesses that it’s hard to remember who’s fit and who isn’t.”

Here’s a reminder of Keith’s performance last weekend…
