During her time on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, former Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts – who joined the judging panel of Dancing On Ice in the show’s last series – appeared cheery and happy-go-lucky…

However, what we viewers didn’t know was that she was secretly fraught with worry over her brother Jayce.

Revealing that Jayce has schizophrenia, and has run foul of the law due to his sometimes unpredictable behaviour, Ashley told the Sunday People, “It’s been a very testing time for all of us.”

She continued, “My brother’s not well. He’s been suffering from schizophrenia since he was a teenager.

The paper adds, “During Ashley’s stint in the jungle last winter, it emerged Jayce, 27, had been arrested in California, Arizona and Nevada for offences including violence, flashing, drugs and theft.”

Of Jayce’s criminal history, Ashley insisted that all the offences were the result of his mental illness, which she says the US criminal justice system “ignored” when Jayce first got into trouble.

She said, “It’s a rough system in America and it took years for the system to finally take him on.

“But now he’s in a good place and getting the kind of care he needs.

“Yes, he’s been to prison and it was hard to get people to do the right thing to get him the right help.

“But I’m glad it wasn’t worse than it is – because it could have been.”

While discussing how close her family are, and how they all support Jayce, Ashley remarked, “My family have a lot of love. They’ve supported me my whole life in what I do.

“Sometimes family members go through things and argue a lot. But everything’s a lot better now.

“Being in the jungle was a good time for me to get away a little bit.”

Here’s a reminder of her on the show…
