Ben Adams isn’t holding out high hopes for the big return of his boyband this evening!
The handsome star will return to our screens on ITV2’s The Big Reunion, as he rejoins his former bandmates Christian Ingebrigtsen and Mark Read to bring A1 back together for the first time in a decade.
The group originally formed in 1998 and their first single, “Be the First to Believe”, entered the UK singles chart at No. 6 in mid-1999.
The stars won a BRIT Award for “British Breakthrough Act” in 2001. They were managed by band manager Tim Byrne, who also formed Steps.
Original band member Paul Marazzi left the band in 2002 and the remaining trio went their separate ways a year later, due to exhaustion.
The group got back in touch last year after being offered the chance to reform for the reality TV series but Ben revealed they have fought to keep their expectations low, so they don’t get disappointed.
He said: ‘It’s going to be average, an average show… We’re aiming for mediocre, then you can only be successful.’
‘It’s not really bad – it’s going to be entertaining,’ Christian reassuringly added.
Mark admitted the boys found it a ‘little uncomfortable’ opening up about their split, the old tensions and all their problems because their image was so much different back in their hey day.
‘We were a very squeaky clean pop band – that was how it was supposed to be back in the day,’ he told Digital Spy. ‘So even if there was trouble and stuff like that we would smile through it and we would be like, “Oh, everything’s wonderful”, even if we had the worst time ever.’
The boys won’t be featured on tonight’s launch episode and fans will have to wait a whole week before hearing their updated story.
However they’re already planning new gigs and concerts and tweeted today saying:
“After the show tonite,Tickets for the Hammersmith gig go on sale, & of course we want to see lots of a1 fans there so get in quick :)”
The Big Reunion returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
