Nick Grimshaw is not a happy bunny this evening it would appear.
The Radio 1 DJ has taken to Twitter to ask One Direction fans to stop bombarding him with hate and death threats, after it was reported that he slated Louis Tomlinson on his show this morning.
The DJ was chatting on air on Tuesday 25th February and later in the day some 1D supporters claimed that he had branded the 1D star as ‘annoying.’
One fan tweeted:
“Grimmy made a list of 15 people more annoying than Lorde, and Louis was on the list.”
The star was then subjected to hours of hate filled messages and repeated tweets telling to ‘die’ and to kill himself and he responded to the detractors earlier tweeting:
“hey 1D fans!!!!! i never mentioned the word “Louis” on my show today so enough with the charming homophobic death threats yeh? 💤💤💤”
Nick is of course close friends with some of the One Direction boys, Harry Styles in particular, and there was a period last year when he and the Little Things singer were practically inseparable and were always hitting the clubs together.
However Grimmers and Tommo have a more chequered past and in October of last year they had a bit of a Twitter spat.
Louis kicked off on his Twitter page about photographers who were hounding him during the Australian leg of the 1D tour. He lashed out at the paps, branding them ‘tw*ts’ and Nick later mocked him on his show, laughing:
“I love a complainy popstar. It’s my favourite thing.”
Tommo later tweeted the star, suggesting that his predecessor Chris Moyles was a better DJ and even his girlfriend Eleanor Calder waded into the row.
Zayn Malik later added fuel to the fire when he told Harry’s pal to mind his ‘own business.’
Now all we want to do is hit iPlayer, listen to Nick’s full show and find out if he did slate Louis again this morning. If he did then we’ll just sit back and weight for El, Zayn and the One Direction fandom to leap to his defence once again.
However, since no one seems to have found a clip and put it online, we can only assume that this time Nick is in the clear and let’s face it even if he wasn’t, aren’t death threats a little bit much?
Louis has more to worry about than silly insults and Twitter wars though, as he has spent today training for his charity football match. The star will soon take to the pitch and take his place in Doncaster Rovers’ team for the first time and this afternoon he was spotted in full kit practicing with the squad.
