TOWIE: Lauren Goodger says that she thought she was going to die during cancer scare!

by Anna Howell

Former The Only Way Is Essex star, Lauren Goodger, has opened up about her cancer scare in her new book, Secrets Of An Essex Girl, and admitted that she thought she was going to die!

Lauren, who recently took part in the hit ITV skating talent show, Dancing On Ice, but was disappointingly voted out in week one, feared that she had cervical cancer, the same disease that tragically took Big Brother star Jade Goodie four years ago, after a routine smear test showed abnormal cells.

However, despite being frightened for her life Goodger, who quit the hit ITV2 reality show The Only Way Is Essex last year to take part in Olympic champions Torvil and Dean’s DOI, says that she used the experience to spur her on and put certain issues in her life, such as internet trolls who have tormented her for years, into perspective

Speaking in her book, extracts of which are being featured all week in the Daily Mirror newspaper, she explained:

“When people really have a go at me, I remind myself how lucky I am. I went for my usual routine smear test and they found abnormal cells. I needed to have a colposcopy, a procedure where they look at what’s going on and then treat it.

“The first thing that I thought was, I’m gonna die. I’ve got cancer. I was frightened about what they might find and I was nervous about the procedure.”

The abnormal results came from a smear test taken when the reality star, and self-tan brand creator, was 21 and required treatment, after which, thankfully, she was given the all clear.

She says: “It was quite painful even though they gave me a local anaesthetic. Afterwards I bled for a while and felt weak. In my case, they were able to laser the abnormal cells away.

“I was so relieved but I worried for ages that it hadn’t gone away and that something bad was going to happen. I had to go back every six months for a smear test. Now I just have one every year and, thank God, it all seems to be clear.

“So when the bullies are at their worst, thinking about what happened makes me realise how small-minded they really are.”

Lauren’s book, Secrets Of An Essex Girl, is out on Valentine’s Day and, as she revealed to us in a recent exclusive interview, is a girls guide to survival which Lauren shares her experiences in to help others.

Speaking to us exclusively, Lauren explained:

“My book is out on Valentine’s day. It was hard work to write because I was training at the same time and travelling quite a lot with Laurens Way (Laurens own brand tanning product company), I was kind of here, there and everywhere. It was really difficult putting it together, I kind of ended up writing it back to front, it was just really full on. But now it is done, and round the right way I am actually quite looking forward to reading it myself.

“It’s not an autobiography; I am only young, though I would really like to do that one day. This is more about me, my family and friends coming into fame, my business, my image, my last relationship, style, celebrity friends – it’s kind of a girl’s guide to everything.”
