So for the last few years the UK has been represented in the Eurovision Song Contest by former stars and chart toppers, who were hoping to revive their careers with a bit of Europe wide publicity.
It didn’t work though and it seems the UK is destined to be in the bottom five forever and ever if something doesn’t drastically change.
It was reported earlier this month that former X Factor star Aiden Grimshaw was in the running for for the 2014 competition, with bosses hoping a fresh, young face would boost their chances of receiving a bit more than nil points at the event.
Fans were delighted that the reality TV star would be coming to the fore again and got rather excited when Aiden tweeted the official BBC Eurovision account saying:
“Hi Louise, contact management for times. Cheers”.
However their hopes were cruelly dashed soon after when his spokesman denied the reports and insisted:
“It’s 100% untrue.”
If Aiden had won the chance to represent Britain it would have made for a very X Factor heavy lineup when the show kicked off in Copenhagan in May 2014.
We already revealed that former show star Ruth Lorenzo – most memorable for her kick ass performance of Purple Rain in 2008 – will be representing Spain with their Eurovision entry this year and she’ll be performing a tune she co-wrote titled Dancing In The Rain.
The song Earlier peaked at #1 in the Spanish iTunes singles chart earlier this month.
Meanwhile Eoghan Quigg is hoping to represent Ireland and he’s even got the backing of One Direction star Niall Horan.
Nialler tweeted today saying:
“Ireland ! vote song number 2 @eoghanquigg92 tonight on Eurosong #TheMovieSong”
The Dungiven boy replied to the Little Things singer saying:
“appreciate that so much buddy, #Legend #TheMovieSong”
“no problem bro! Hope you get it ! Good t see ya back”
Quiggy will be performing on Ireland’s RTE channel this evening, where he is hoping to win public backing and the chance to sing at the Eurovision in two month’s time.
“Sound check done! Food time, can’t wait to perform tonight, VOTE song 2!!! On @RTELateLateShow #EuroSong #TheMovieSong”
We wonder if Diana Vickers will be tuning in?
