Lady Gaga is chiming in after Ed Sheeran announced that he was quitting Twitter and hinted that her hoards of fans were one of the reasons he decided to quit the site.

Sheeran made the surprising announcement that he would be taking a break from Twitter earlier this week after originally joining back in October 2009, and now Mother Monster is commenting on his departure and demanding respect.

Taking to Instagram on July 4, Gaga shared a heartfelt message after learning that Ed had been driven away from the social media site by bullies and urged social media users to be kinder to one another.

“What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED,” the “Born This Way” singer wrote alongside a photo of herself posing with the star who’s giving two thumbs up.

She then went on to tell her followed that Sheeran “deserves all our love and respect like all humans do” before expressing her wish that people would be kinder to one another on the internet.

“I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean,” she wrote. “No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top. Work harder to be kinder everybody. That should be your first duty to humanity.”

It’s thought that some of Gaga’s fans – known as Little Monsters – were one of the reasons Ed said bye bye to the site as he revealed that her followers had some not so nice things to say to him after a misunderstanding in an interview.

Sheeran recently told The Sun that he no longer goes on the 140-character site because of all the nasty comments people send him.

“I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it,” he said of the trolls that target him, claiming that some of Gaga’s fans weren’t exactly nice to him and sent mean and hateful comments. “I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things.”

Adding that just one nasty comment is enough to ruin his day, he revealed that he’s left his Twitter behind completely because the hateful comments sent him into a “head-f***” where he was desperately “trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”
