Liam Payne is revealing that Cheryl once tried to dump him by phone.

Payne opened up about the moment he and the former Girls Aloud star almost called it quits in a new interview, revealing that Cheryl once tried to dump him via a phone call and that their candid conversation actually inspired one of the songs on his new album.

Opening up about the moment things almost all ended between himself and his girlfriend (or possibly wife?) Liam told The Sun that Cheryl called him a while ago – long before the two became parents to bay Bear – and tried to break things off.

“There’s one song [on my album] that is basically a phone call that happened between me and her when she was about to let it go,” Payne said of the two almost calling it quits.

Liam didn’t give too much away about exactly what happened when the former X Factor judge almost broke up with him, but the One Direction star did confirm that it happened “a long time ago” and that it was him who convinced her to stay and give things another go.

“It’s basically me trying to cling on and say: ‘No, no, no it’s all going to work out – don’t worry about it, give it time,’” he said of the song.

Fortunately, the two are now very much happy and in love and Liam even confirmed in a recent interview that his girlfriend is a very hands on mum when it comes to their 2-month-old, revealing that they don’t even have a nanny.

Speaking out about being away from his family in an interview with Kiss FM, Payne said of the singer, “I thought that I’d get the call saying, we need a nanny for this, but no, she’s doing everything. She’s really pushing herself with it, bless her.”
