It was a great night for British music last night as the Brit Awards 2015 celebrated and honoured the brightest stars and the hottest tunes of the last year…
And former X Factor boy band One Direction won big, as did their BFF Ed Sheeran and the just plain awesome Sam Smith.
However, as One Direction are currently in Japan on their On the Road Again tour, their boss Simon Cowell collected their award – for Best British Video for their hit single, You and I – but singers Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik recorded a brief video thanking fans for voting for them. You can see that below.
As to Sam and Ed, Sam landed the awards for Global Success and British Breakthrough Act, while Ed won British Male Solo Artist and the Mastercard British Album of the Year.
Ed’s pal – and Harry Styles’ ex – Taylor Swift landed the gong for International Female Solo Artist, while Pharrell Williams won the award for International Male Solo Artist.
Royal Blood won in the category of Best British Group, while James Bay won the Critics’ Choice gong.
However, as we reported last night, the talk of the evening was all about Madonna’s epic fail on-stage as she fell down a flight of stairs thanks to her ridiculously high heels and a rogue cape.
At her age, she could’ve shattered a hip, so perhaps it’s time to put away the stilettos, the fishnets and the leotards and settle for comfy shoes, polyester pants and a sensible jacket. One with a hood in case caught in a sudden shower. It’s all very well to think ‘Oh it’s just a shower’ but that rheumatism is gonna hurt come winter…
Anyway, on now to the full list of winners…
British Male Solo Artist – Ed Sheeran
British Female Solo Artist – Paloma Faith
