It was in the spring of this year that rumours began to circulate claiming that One Direction star Liam Payne and former X Factor judge Cheryl were expecting a baby.
However, though dozens of media outlets reported on the couple’s happy news, the world and his wife were waiting for Liam and Cheryl to confirm the pregnancy…
And we waited, and waited and then waited some more, but still the pair kept mum, refusing to confirm or deny anything.
But then came Cheryl’s public appearances at a perfume launch event and on the BBC’s The One Show…
It was widely speculated at the time that Cheryl was deliberately ‘concealing’ her baby bump with clothing specifically designed to help her to do so. And furthermore, The One Show’s hosts did not ask Cheryl to comment on the baby rumour.
Meanwhile, Cheryl and Liam’s friends were quizzed about the baby rumours, however, nobody was giving anything away.
But that left Cheryl and Liam’s fans wondering why the pair were going to such lengths to keep their happy news a secret…
However, according to psychologist Judi James, in refusing to comment on their news, Liam Payne and Cheryl may have been “engineering more publicity and attention.”
The Daily Star quotes James as saying, “The only conclusion I can come to at the moment is that, for her, it’s a status thing.
“She is almost engineering more publicity and attention.”
Well, it’s certainly true that had Liam Payne and Cheryl simply said, ‘Yes, we’re having a baby’, then the intense media attention there has been for months now would most likely have been short-lived…
Because obviously, it’s that it’s been a big ‘mystery’ that paparazzi photographers for example have been stationing themselves wherever Cheryl may be in a bid to be the person who gets THE photo that definitively shows a baby bump.
But though of course I don’t know Cheryl or Liam Payne personally, my feeling on it is that it was Cheryl’s decision not to publicly comment on their pregnancy news…
And I don’t believe she did so to ‘engineer’ press attention or anything of the sort. I think it was simply because she chose not to discuss it with the press.
It’s no secret that Cheryl hates press intrusion into her life, and she really resents reading tabloid tales about herself that are factually incorrect.
So my guess is she thought to herself, ‘Why should I’ comment on her happy news.
Do you think that’s why Liam and Cheryl have refused to make any public comment about their baby news?
Or do you have a different theory?
