Emmerdale fans fear Robron are DEAD! But fury over “trashing” Jack Sugden’s memory

by Lynn Rowlands

This week is “super soap” week on ITV with both Emmerdale and Coronation Street running explosive storylines that will lead to fatalities…

On Emmerdale, each episode this week will feature accounts of the events of just one day as told and seen from the perspective of key characters.

And last night, Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden kicked off the week of flashbacks and flash-forwards, with the opening scenes being those of a funeral…

But who is being laid to rest?

Well, we’re going to have to wait until Friday night’s trip to Emmerdale to find out. But given that Aaron and Robert were about to be involved in what may or may not be a fatal car crash at the end of last night’s show, then it could well be one or both of the lovers who don’t live to see another week in the dales.

And if so, then it would be particularly heartbreaking, given that in last night’s episode, we saw that Robert was about to propose to Aaron…

Emmerdale viewers flocked to Twitter to reveal their upset that after, at long last, Robron said ‘I love you’ to each other, disaster had struck.

One viewer tweeted, “OMG you can’t let Robron die now!!”

However, prior to the cliffhanger crash scenes, viewers saw Robert revealing to Aaron that he had hidden his bisexuality for years after his father, Jack Sugden – a role played by the late Clive Hornby – had beaten him after finding him in bed with a farmhand.

In the emotionally charged scene, Robert said, “We had this lad help on the farm. Dad caught us in my room…

“He sacked him and leathered me. I never talked about it again.”

Robert added, “He [my dad] couldn’t look at me for weeks… He didn’t want a son like me. So I buried it.”

On Twitter, many Emmerdale fans accused the show’s bosses of “trashing” the memory of Jack Sugden, with one angry viewer tweeting, “F***ing up the legend of Jack Sudgen not the best thing @emmerdale have done!”

What did you think of that scene? Was it in bad taste to imply Jack Sugden was not only homophobic but violent too?

Let us know, but in the meantime, make sure you don’t miss a minute of this week’s Emmerdale…

Take a sneak peek at what’s ahead tonight.
