Emmerdale Spoilers: John Middleton reveals Ashley Thomas’ fate? “Events lead to further tragedy!”

by Lynn Rowlands

Tonight’s episode of Emmerdale kicks off what promises to be a truly gripping and spectacular week of drama that will leave at least one villager dead…

Each episode this week will open with scenes of a funeral, but we’ll have to wait until Friday to find out who is being laid to rest.

But of course, as Ashley Thomas is suffering from vascular dementia, and as his symptoms have become significantly worse of late – and as we’ll see on Tuesday, he forgets he’s at his daughter Dotty’s Christening – it could well be that the former vicar will be taking his Last Dance this week.

Obviously, Emmerdale chiefs are giving nothing away about the climax of this week’s epic twists and turns. However, the lovely John Middleton, who of course plays Ashley, has been talking to ITV about what’s ahead for his character.

Here’s what he had to say…

So far Ashley has been dealing with his dementia quite well. As the Alzheimer’s society say you can live well with it and he has been.

But his condition has deteriorated quite a lot. It’s actually worse than people have noticed and he’s very confused on the day of Dotty’s christening. The tragic thing that happens in particular is that as he gets to the christening – he has his baby Dotty in his arms – and all of a sudden, he forgets who she is and why he’s there.

It’s a crisis moment because it’s the first time he’s forgotten who a member of his family is, and that distresses him a lot…

We know that during the day Ashley is going to be involved in an event, which will lead to the death of at least one character. And we already know that there can only be one outcome for Ashley’s story. But what we don’t know, is when. This could be the end for Ashley.

His journey that day is already heartbreaking, but this event leads to further tragedy, and that could mean further heartache for Ashley’s family…
