Though they may be gone from EastEnders, Samantha Womack and Rita Simons aren’t necearily leaving the BBC just yet.
According to reports, the twosome, who played sassy sisters Ronnie and Roxy in the BBC soap, are now being tipped to appear on the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing.
The Sun is alleging that the former EastEnders stars could be heading to the ballroom after their characters were dramatically killed off from the soap in the New Year, claiming that bosses over at the dancing show are desperate to get the twosome on board.
An insider at Strictly teased the news to the newspaper, revealing that those behind the scenes of the popular dancing show are “keen” to see the former on-screen sisters throw on their dancing shows when the competition returns to our screens this year after letting the actresses go from the BBC One soap.
“It’s fair to say that people are keen to sign at least one of them and if at all possible both of the girls for the new series,” a source revealed. “Obviously it’s early days and lists are still being drawn up for potential candidates as there are all kinds of commitments that people have for the coming months.”
The insider also went on to reveal that BBC bosses allegedly see bringing Samantha and Rita on board as a way of softening the blow of their axing from the soap after playing the lovable sisters for several years, as it’s thought the two didn’t really want to leave.
“The BBC are well aware of the anger,” continued the Strictly insider. “So the powers that be are convinced that signing them up would prove to be a sure fire ratings winner for the new series.”
